not really a date
”Eeeee~!” Nori fell back onto her plush bed, kicking legs exuberantly. She’d won! Really won! And she never really won anything. She’d been bored during the summer, especially when Rin and Kei were away. She’d already worked on her tan, slept through the day, and ate as much as she wanted.
But still. It was boring without Rin. And the brunette couldn’t help but be a bit put down by the lack of company.
Which was the only reason she’d obtained the amusement park tickets in her hand. Listening to public radio had its benefits and when she’d finally found the guts to call in for one of their contests, Nori had been the lucky caller number five. And how amazing was that? She had squealed and gushed over the phone and had waited exactly four days until they were mailed to her home.
Of course, these tickets were the whole deal—free passes through each ride, free parking, flash-pass through each line, and all you could eat lunch; along with free refills.
"I can’t wait to tell—" She paused. Wait. Who was she gonna tell? "Rin!"
I wonder if he’ll go with me…
Well, the only wait to tell was asking.

[Text]: :)) you should come with me!
Summers were the same every year--go on maybe one or two trips and study, study, study. However, Rin was positive this year's trip was going to be his only; an entire month on a cruise ship around some parts of the states. And he couldn't forget the 16-20 hour plane ride to get to his cruise port anyway. That was all last month, though. He came back just recently; perhaps just two weeks ago, but it wasn't as if he was keeping track. The moment he arrived home, he slept for a good 8 hours and went straight to studying. Typical, really.
He went outside everyday, claiming he needed a 'mandatory 2 hours or more outdoors' ever since returning from the trip (mainly because he was outside so often he got used to it), but he didn't do much. Some days he just sat on the porch and read a novel and some days, he went out for lunch with Matsushima or Nakamura. Unless Nakamura had other plans for them--then he'd be dragged out for longer than 2 hours and away from his studies.
It's not that he minded, he was pretty used to it by now. But college classes were starting in a little over 2 months and Rin needed to be fully prepared. He's been told he doesn't need to worry, which he isn't, but it's just for safe measures. Nakamura frequently texted him, and even if his time wasn't the best at the moment, he'd still stop and reply since if he didn't, she'd continue texting until he gave an answer.
And now speaking of being texted--

[Text]: Free? From those annoying radio shows you always listen to? I suppose I could make some time. What day do you plan on going? Also, transportation?
why don't you kiss her?
Pouting, she stood from the bench, walking a few feet ahead, “I would rather stay here.”
Stupid, cute, fluffy-haired, serious, intelligent, smart-mouthed, handsome Rin…He was so stupid. With his nice hair and perfect grades. Her smile fell at this, mood dampening down a bit. Something she couldn’t have. Something that was too good for her. “Oh, greeeattt…” She murmured to herself, “I made myself depressed…”
She wasn’t supposed to be. It had been a good night. Even though Kei had left early. She was still happy and excited to be beside Rin. His arm was almost always around her and he was gentler than usual. Even thinking of this and his smile was enough to make her feel dizzy.
She was broken from her thoughts, however, when she heard her name leave his lips. Automatically, her shoulders tensed and her head came around to face him. Her cheeks were warm—much warmer than before.
Nori. He said Nori.
"I-I…was gonna…" She trailed off, feeling his large hand on her head, tangling within the locks. Her heart hammered against her ribcage. Rin was touching her much more than usual. And she shouldn’t be so happy about it. but she is.
And she can’t help herself.
She didn’t say anything else as he stooped down, offering his back to her. She hesitated for a moment before grabbing the edges of her yukata and latching onto him.
Immediately, she pressed her face to the back of his shoulder, “I wanna go home.”
She carried the scent of cheap perfume and a hint of alcohol (that small bit of sake really had some effect on her; physically and mentally). As she climbed onto his back, he hooked his arms behind her knees so she'd be secure and stood back up. "Are you alright back there?" he asked, taking a glance behind his shoulder. Everything about Nori at the moment screamed misery and just plain tired and Rin was positive that the sake had nothing (or not entirely at least) to do with it.
This particular scene was too surreal. It was as if they had ripped the story line of one of those shoujo mangas (he had always seemed to catch Nori with her nose stuck in one) and reenacted it for a play done at school with the theme 'summer romance'. It was weird; not once in his 18 years of living has he come across a situation like this--boy meets girl and the girl changes the boy's life kind of thing.
"Don't worry, we'll be home soon." He hadn't even noticed he implied 'we' instead of just Nori alone. They were practically connected at the hip; wherever he went, Nori went. And wherever Nori went, Rin had always been (somehow) pulled along. And that's where the story of how the girl had changed the boy's life begins--she pushed him to extremes, brought him to places he's never dared to go, challenged him in ways more than just academics. It was a brand new light to him and it was all because of her.
The walk was silent if you didn't include Nori's constant mumbles. The streets were empty by this hour and besides his own footsteps, he noticed how crickets chirp louder when all other noises seem to die down. Since it was summer, the weather was still warm even at night. It was a bit difficult searching for which apartment was Nori's--every one of them looked the same, especially at night. The only thing he could remember was the number, rather than the entire building itself.
He found it eventually, and as he hauled the both of them up the stairs, he could hear the other dozing off. "Hey, go to sleep inside, not on my back."
"W-Where are you going?! I missed you!"
"Oh, really? Doesn't sound like you did." He was teasing, sort of.
