Just a dog and his boy <3
My health has been very poor lately but I'm mostly stable right now!)
Met up with @the-adventures-of-dave yesterday and it was quite fun. Mostly stayed masked or distanced and we are both vaccinated. We finally got to do our Galaxy Day, just a year later!
I got to pet Kepler a bunch and she got Sam to do some tricks!
The first half of the video is the way Sam insisted on sitting in the car and the second is Sam doing tricks!
I'm dying.
I just wanted a cute picture of her eating her whip cream! What is this face??
@spooneyes whip cream on the head 2!
can people with labs (dogs) tell me more about them? they are picking my interest 👀
I don’t directly have one but I did directly have a golden retriever and my brother has a lab.
They are big dumb babies 200% full of love. Very goofy, very loving, will push a semi truck out of the way for snuggles.
Also don’t own, but have much experience.
Dumb babies. Classic American Dog. Friendly, easygoing, lovable. Easy keepers. They are also a living bag of holding…their stomachs are bottomless.
Strong of heart, dumb of ass.
Happy gotcha day Sam!!! Four years ago I flew round trip to Nashville airport to pick up this tiny hairless puppy. I was a swirling mix of anxiety and excitement, terrified that I was duped and he was just a shaved rat terrier puppy. This pup immediately won me over so completely and it seems like I won him over as well. Even by the time we got to Edmonton airport in Nisku he wasn't willing to let me out of his sight. He cried the entire time I was in the washroom and immediately snuggled back into my arms. That night he slept under the blanket snuggled in between my chest and my arm as the little spoon. He now prefers to sleep with my legs as a pseudo bolster bed and will forcibly move my legs so he can get snuggled with his head on my knee. There have been a ton of ups and downs but he's a sometimes frustrating but always adored little guy. Cheers to four amazing years, pup.
He now has a fancy dress shirt
And a dino hoodie
He can catch a tossed kibble
PSA: KONG COMFORT COLLAR
So a few months ago I posted about how Sam's collar popped open during a walk and he had a delightful run in a big circle. Since then I've only used it for our trip solely to the car and to the mailbox. I made sure the collar was oriented opposite to how it was the first time (buckle to the right of the collar loop rather than to the left) but since then it has opened more than once, specifically the buckle popping open. It seems to pop open even if only one side is pressed while there is pressure on the collar. Today it popped open with the same amount of pressure as like pushing an elevator button.
I would absolutely not use this collar for anything other than purely for holding tags. It has proven itself to be a completely unreliable!
It's the Kong Comfort collar in the smaller size and it looks like this:
If you or anyone you know has this collar please let them know of this potential issue.

I don't know if I remembered to post this after it was posted but it's an article I wrote!
Apparently he looks like a little kid who has just been picked up from school and is pouring now because mom said we can't get McDonald's on the way hone
Cinnamon Bear, Bryan Davies - Here is the bedroom we finished for our rescued shelter cat (Wyatt) this weekend. He actually goes in to nap and watch birds on YouTube :). Fame hasn’t gone to Wyatt’s head, even after he got an article by Stephen Messenger @dodo !
animal shelters will straight up just lie to people in the hopes that they can offload dangerous dogs onto adopters who don't know any better
Can we count all the red flags in the description tho?
Loyal and active
Loves long walks
Needs an active owner
Needs experienced owner
Needs a lot of exercise
Besides the obvious resource guarding and cage-brave attitude (which by themselves are a serious problem but manageable with the right owner) I would guess that she is also incredibly boisterous, destructive, and may redirect onto the owner when interrupted from her 'active nature'. I would also guess she either lunges for people while on walks or has attemptes to eat a guest or two.
When I worked with unadoptable dogs in a rescue environment, this was usually the type of dog that stayed with us or was euthanized 🤷♂️ no one wants the liability or the mauling that comes with a dog like this.
God. Agree with everything that’s been said already and also- I’m stricken by how like... these dogs cannot be enjoying their lives. Even if we pretend there were infinite homes with wonderful dog trainers (and no friends/family/other pets/...) and shelter spaces and volunteers who are somehow trained to exercise and enrich these dogs — how?? Do you help a dog that’s boiling over in anger/stress/fear like this? You what, take them out in the country and ... ... let them run free forever I guess, because they’ll come at you if you try to leash them?
For them to live in a home: You’d have to crate them constantly. They’d see normal things as a dire threat they must respond to. I’m sure this dog’s cortisol is OFF THE FUCKIN CHARTS 24/7.
What kind of quality of life could this poor dog possibly have?
And I wish everyone who thinks that behavioral euthanasia is evil a very I hope you and your loved ones are never in this situation with a beloved pet.
Question for you! This hasn't been an issue yet as it has been cool enough to keep my xolo clothed, but summer heat is approaching and I was wondering if you had any ways you particularly like for preventing chafing from harnesses if on direct skin? Every harness that has linings they aren't on the straps which are what I worry will chafe so I was wondering if you have any advice to share on that topic :>
No problem at all! I haven't had an issue with harnesses rubbing. Most dogs have very little hair on their armpits and chest /stomach. My backup plan had been to get an SPF onesie such as the hurtta sun suit if the straps ever left became an issue
Kisses from Sam

This is Sam and my brother's routine when he leaves. It's such a cute goodbye kiss.
