Exploded 80s tech from the JCA Annual.
Fred Freeman was an old-school cutaway artist. For Sci-Fi Cutaway Saturday, here are a few Freeman illustrations from, I believe, the 1950s.
Ray G. Scarfo. Behold the future of Lunar living, Science Journal, May, 1969.

deciding i should be more ashamed and embarassed by my interests. i should feel more pathetic for liking what i do than i alreaxy do now
fond of this particular evil woman in Gundam Stardust Memory
Incredibly funny line when you are used to her popular depiction. This is like starting Dragon Ball and immediately seeing Goku say "I'm bad at fighting"
battle royale (2000)? pretty goated movie
"adults are evil and will make the youth suffer for their amusement" and its logical endpoint "the young should slime out the old" is probably best explored in japanese works
this is exactly what being a girl feels like
she's so sick of it all
I had assumed that Reinhard and Wenli were the same age, so when Reinhard was described as being 20, I naturally assumed Wenli would also be 20. And then there was a mention of some incident where Wenli took charge and I went "surely they didn't have a 12 year old coordinating an emergency response??". So I looked it up and he's 28 which makes a lot more sense.
And thinking about it, the rivalry (if you want to call it that) between Wenli and Reinhard is compelling in part because it's asymmetric rather than having them as mirror images. Reinhard is a brilliant, obsessive genius who wants power. Wenli is, at heart, a silly guy who wasn't even really planning to be in the military. He'd love to look at the war and go "not my problem", but unfortunately he keeps going back and tries to fix things anyway.
