Upon seeing her golden waves bouncing off her shoulders, Miles took a second to stop. Of course he knew Kassandra would be here. Well not exactly here at his hotel but he knew she would be back in Athens. He just didn’t expect to see her so soon. A small smile formed on his lips as he watched the woman approach.
Despite their times in New York and how close they’ve gotten over the last year and a half, it felt odd seeing her back home. Back home, they didn’t have a friendship or any sort of relationship. Here he was just a close friend of her brother’s and she was just the little annoying blonde girl who tried playing with them. Miles had always seen Kassandra as Dawson’s seven year old sister. Even as they entered high school, he never tried getting to know the woman. That was until she walked right into one of his hotels in New York, starting up a chapter in his life he enjoyed.
Now Kassandra was one of the few people in his life he trusted. Which was silly considering how they never really got super close. They hung out a lot, grabbed drinks, spent some nights tonight but it never grew into anything. But that was what Miles appreciated about their relationship – it was a causal friendship and one he didn’t know he wanted to bring back home.
“You didn’t mention you were coming home this weekend. Missed me or something?”
Kassandra had heard from some of the daycare moms, that there was an attractive new guy in town, some hotel magnate, checking up on the local branch, and she knew without a doubt who they were talking about. Even if she and Miles hadn’t built up a New York friendship, she’d have known. It was hard to forget her older brother’s cute friend who grew up to be some fancy billionaire, but since she hadn’t seen him herself, and he hadn’t reached out, she ignored the pull to search him out.
She wasn’t actually sure what she’d say to him even if she did try to seek him out. What did one say to their occasional hookup buddy when they suddenly decided to come to town? They weren’t besties, and they weren’t dating, so as far as she was concerned, there was no reason to talk to him; right? Apparently avoidance only worked for so long though, because here she was in his hotel’s bar and there he was at the bar watching her approach. On some level she knew it was a possibility, but she’d wanted a drink after a long day, and his place was closest.
Kass scoffed as she got close enough to be heard without having to raise her voice. “Why would I? I live here, Miles, it’s you who’s visiting unannounced. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were the one doing the missing.” Taking the seat next to him, she crossed one leg over the other and rested her hands on the bar. “I’m here in this hotel, because I wanted a drink, and yours just happens to be near work.”
