Fucking hell I just want normal brain function. I want to be able to trust my own mind and my emotions but I’m too sad at even the slightest little thing and I’m too anxious to just be fucking normal so I don’t know if this is a reasonable reaction but I know it’s not normal for me.

You know, I actually liked this episode of game of thrones.

I’ve thought for years Dany going all mad queen was likely, they’ve definitely been seeding it in, and I generally disagree with the refrain that it’s bad writing because, well, it’s been a spiral since before she got to Westeros. She’s always been ruthless, she’s always believed in divine right, but in all her wins in Essos she was batting at 100%. When she got to Westeros, the place she believed was hers by right, where she’d been told (well, Viserys had been) that the people secretly wanted the Targs back, it turned out actually not so much.

Then she took a bunch of losses, two dragons (who she saw as her children, and this show has had mothers doing terrible things for their children - see Cersei, Catelyn - already) plus the loss of her friends, Missandei’s execution in particular was horrible and the anger after that was totally understandable.

Honestly the moment i was certain she was going the mad queen route was the conversation with Sansa, where she instantly goes cold when challenged, and from that point is even more pointed about her dislike of Sansa. To me that was the ‘this going to be fire and blood for sure’ moment. So yeah, I thought that up to the point of the surrender everything was justified.

Of course when the bells rang and there was the pause, and Dany’s face just twisted that was the tipping point, that was where the choice was made to get revenge, to burn it all down despite what she’d said about not wanting to rule ashes, she chose ashes. Kind of an ‘I choose violence’ moment for her. I thought it was earned, honestly. Of course all those Geneva contraventions were not easy to watch, though that’s just my IL background talking.

Also Jon pls grow a spine next episode.

On another note, as a fan of Lena Headey’s acting, yes. How she hasn’t been awarded for this role I will never understand. It’s a travesty. Her faces, her voice, the acting choices! No problem narratively with how Cersei/Jaime went out, it was kind of a full circle thing, despite the braime earlier in the season. I did genuinely want Braime to happen, in my ideal ending Jaime’s redemption sticks and braime 4 ever. But when it actually happened, it really did seem like a ‘wow we’re alive’ and also a ‘trying to be who you want to be’ not an endgame love story. So him leaving when he realises he’s seriously looking at a possibility of having a life, without Cersei and realised that it was a nice dream, but he loves Cersei more I get. And then dying together was foreshadowed as hell for ages so not surprised. Also Cersei going out as she did was a choice, but one I’m kinda down with as she’s always been human. Horrible yes, but only a psychopath could be like stone knowing they are going to die and cannot do anything about it. Kind of like how Brienne cried last episode, neither of those characters were truly like stone, if anything Cersei’s emotional reactions have often driven plot in this show.

Arya has plot armour for the ages but using her as a focus was great. It made it feel immediate, like a chase scene, rather than just random small folk burning to death for a while. Would still have emotionally has less heft. Yes for her choosin to live rather than die for revenge. There’s still time next ep! Especially considering that face she’s pulling in the trailer.

Speaking of revenge Clegane bowl was great, I wish they hadn’t cut away so much, I sort of wanted to see it in one scene.

Tyrion 😭 He’s not having much fun next episode. Peter Dinklage is another great on this show (he has been well rewarded for it, and deservedly so).

Noting for the record, I have always stanned Cersei.
