Essa had been given her first one-on-one, special circumstance patient since being invited to join the Circle of Jedi Healers. What was initially a moment of pride and excitement was quickly disrupted by an offhand comment from one of the other Knights, sarcastically wishing her good luck and muttering something about how difficult the Padawan had been the past few days.
Reading through his file had left her with just as many questions as it had provided answers. The thing that had stood out most though was the label at the top, printed in bold letters: FLIGHT RISK.
Yes, she could understand why the others may have been wary of this case, but she also felt that the ways that the Masters had been approaching him had been a little bit too clinical, focused on the physical things wrong, instead of focusing on helping his nervous system relax and remember that it was safe.
Essa turned the corner into the room assigned to Obi-Wan, only to find the bed empty, the only sign that he had been there a mess of wires and the feeding tube hanging limply off the edge of the bed, still wet with mucus and spots of blood from when it had been so hastily removed.
It didn't take long for her to find him, using the way that his pain and fear radiated out through the Force as a guide, aided by the sound of the soft sobs coming from the vents.
She gently removed the cover and peeked into the vent, her expression more curious than anything. She wanted to seem as non-threatening as possible, something that was already aided by the fact that she was much younger than many of the other Jedi who worked in the Halls.
"Oh, hello Obi-Wan. I was wondering where you'd gone off to." Essa said softly. She set a small bottle of fruit juice on the edge of the vent, peering in one more time to say, "I thought you might be a bit thirsty so I brought you something to drink."
The Knight had added a small dose of their flavourless nutrient mix to it before she had come to find him. The powder had dissolved into the juice almost perfectly, save for a few bits that blended in with the bits of fruit pulp floating within. It was a very small dose, and it certainly wasn't enough to sustain him, but it was a start.
Then she did something unexpected, choosing to turn her back on him and sit down on the floor outside of the vent. She didn't want to force him to do anything, as that had clearly caused some of the problems they had seen before, and was happy to sit and wait for him to come out on his own terms.
Often the best way to help someone regulate was to stay regulated yourself. Essa promised herself that she would do whatever she could to do just that.
