Maggie Q
Kate had been uncover in the Hunt area for the past few weeks, only a few people knew about her place. She was going through her notes and files that she had worked in the past when she heard a knock on her door. "Oh. Hey."
You have no right coming in here and doing this.
I suggest you leave him alone or you will be the next one on the ground.
The ground she had been sitting on had now grown cold, but Harley didn’t notice it. Her attention was on the hands in front of her, hands that were now covered in blood, blood that was only a figment of her imagination. It had started with a cut on her hand and now all she could could see was his blood on her hands. However it was when she felt a hand on her shoulder that she broke from her trance, a scream leaving her lips.
Kate was walking past Harley's room when she heard the godforsaken scream of the young girl, she hurried inside to find her still alone staring at her hands. She quickly grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Harley. "Shh -- you're okay. You're okay. Harley, I'm here. Stop screaming."
Kate had just arrived back in town. Kate walked in town looking around, she had a list of things she had to finish. One was bringing information to Caleb Marshall but for now, she went to go check on the rebels. She had left as soon as Dita and Alyson arrived back in town.
"Of course I took pictures. I don’t think I could resist." Alyson pulled out her phone, swiping to up so Kate could see the slideshow of shots from the new baby. Her favorite - her background - was one of her brother and his life standing side by side holding their newborn together looking down.
"If I missed a lot, tell me what it was."
"Aww, they look so happy. And the baby is just beautiful Al. Congrats, are you the god mother?" She asked, staring at the photo then back at her friend. When Al asked to be updated, Kate sighed. "We can talk about that later today, we need you doc. "
She took the coffee in her hands, enjoying the feeling of warmth in her hands. Carefully, she blew on it to cool it down before taking a sip. “Joseph had a baby, you know. I had to go visit. She’s the absolute sweetest thing with her little toes.”
There was a pause as she remembered her time away. As hard as it had been to leave her rebel family, she had enjoyed the month of pure blood family she had been given the chance to see. “Now, what did I miss?”
Kate smiled, she was glad to have her friend back -- with everything that went on. To have Ally back, the camp could finally get things together again. "What did he name the little cutie pie? Did you take pictures?"
"You missed a lot. But it's good to have you back."
Alyson couldn’t quite stifle a yawn as the early morning caught up to her. She brought the blanket around her shoulders and smiled at Kate. “Good morning. Did you bring me breakfast?”
"I'm not really a breakfast person -- but I got a cup of coffee with your name on it." Kate said holding a another cup of coffee. "How was your time away?"
It had been a long drive into town. Alyson had taken her bags from the car and no sooner had she put them into her tent than her head had hit the pillow and the swell of night had taken her under. It was only when someone opened the tent flap door and allowed early morning light into the tent did her eyes flutter open. “Hello..?” She mumbled.
Kate walked into the tent of her old friend. A smile on her face, she was glad to have Allie home. "Welcome back girl."
"You’re more that right, Kate. I guess I just needed to be reminded of this. We all have that one moment of weakness and this was mine. That you for being my rock right now. I appreciate it." She smiled. "Alright, let’s go do this and release all this anger inside."
"I'll always be there for you, it's what best friends do." She said. "Yes, shooting and beers."
You might be second-in-command, Kate. But that doesn’t always make you right.
So tell me, what you think -- we give a child a gun who has PST and tell her to go kill monsters, when she herself want thinks she is a monster? Tell what would you do? -- This isn't just war Tom, their lives we are talking about I'm doing what is best who them as people not just as soildiers.
Drop it, okay?
Understood. We will make each and every hunter who dare step into that ballroom pay with their lives. They will not be show mercy for they don’t deserve such a kindness.
Mercy is a luxury they will not have. I'll get a plan set up and fill you in.
You don’t get to make that decision anymore. She stopped being a child the day she became a rebel, and she’s the only person that gets to decide to leave or not. Everyone needs to heal, but we are not here to baby people. Soldiers do what soldiers do, not be an admiral and step up.
That's were you are wrong Tom, the day we forget that she is a child is the day we are no better than the supernaturals. I didn't say she was leaving -- I said she is off duty for the time being just like the rest of you. We're all laying low, right now. So I suggest you watch what you say to me at times, because I know what I am doing.
She’s one of the best fighters we have in this camp, keep her in best condition. It doesn’t account for the fact that she shouldn’t have been there that night, but it doesn’t matter right now. I just need her back in fighting condition.
I know Tom. But this is her first kill, the first time she actually had to pull a trigger -- sometimes it's not about being best fighter. Sometimes it's about being human and right now, she's a seventeen year old girl scared and in pain because she was forced to kill her friend.
We forced all you guys all to grow up so soon, placing weapons in your hands and we forget you guys are children too -- she is a child. And right now, she needs some kind of normal life. She needs to heal her heart and soul specially her mind.
