âAh see, there it is.â He wiggled his finger at her. Luke actually didnât mind seeing at all the kids get dressed up and be silly, though they were silly all the time if they werenât too crazy and annoying. When he was placed in the pediatric rotation during med school, he got to hang out with a lot of cool kids and he had a soft spot in his heart for them. âYou did not eat all that candy yourself, I donât believe you. But I wouldâve done the same, my pinky is bigger than a butterfingers alone.â
âOnly a little bit,â he scrunched up his nose. It wasnât hard to compliment Kate. Luke wasnât blind and he saw how beautiful she was. That and the way they got along â it was a few of the many things that made him stick around her. âWell they trust me with their lives so might as well trust them, no?â His head turned to look down at her. âNo, he didnât have anything up his butt ,â he laughed. âI really hope this is a legit party and not some drug deal weâre being dragged to. At least I have you to protect me if anything.â He teased. Soon after they had arrived to the address Luke had been given and seeing the last two people who had gone in, it seemed like they were in the clear. At the door, he gave the password and both him and Kate were let into the party. âThis is not what I was expecting,â he piped over the loud music and chatter, seeing how much more extravagant everyone else was.Â
âHey, thatâs nothing!â Kate argued as he wiggled his finger at her. âFind me someone who hasnât done it, I dare you! I donât know what kind of magical fairy land of a city youâre coming from, but everyoneâs guilty of it here.â She teased the other, only to frown when he spoke of butterfingers. âYou think I canât eat candy all by myself? Give me one evening by myself with some TV show on, and Iâll put in a postmates delivery for more candy.â Kate then took his hand, carefully, purposefully inspecting his fingers. âIâll be damned, youâre right. Either your hands are gigantic, or butterfingers were bigger before.â
âWhat would make you feel better, then?â She asked curiously, playing along. She could come up with ten different ways, but where was the fun if she couldnât get Luke to offer at least a single one of them first. âSure, you can go with that. Then again, people trust me with their safety, but thereâs no way I would trust most of them with anything. Besides, New York is big. Whoâs to say he wouldnât lie to you? Chances of you seeing him again are small, so his chances of lying or messing with you without fearing for repercussions are small.â Kate reasoned. It was sad, in a way, how little faith she had in people. Yet, having had seen the thing she had, she knew no one could blame her. People could be twisted, dark, and messed up. And some had absolutely no boundaries.
However, her dark thoughts were soon pushed away when they finally approached the place. It didnât seem to be outstanding, and it only peaked her curiosity when the two spotted an unusually dressed couple. And, once they were allowed inside as well, her thoughts only but were confirmed, and a wide smile appeared on her face. âYou know,â She spoke after a moment of taking the whole thing in; the decorations, the costumes, the people. âif thatâs your way of hinting at wanting to see me dressed in this sorta stuff, you couldâve just said so.â She teased the man, figuring this whole thing was more amusing rather than shocking. Only in New York.
