oop!!! sorry i’m not taking requests or operating this blog at all anymore, lately i’ve been very busy. sorry for those who sent me a message and didn’t get a reply, i haven’t been on tumblr for seven months or so..
but i did work hard on this blog for a while and feel bad abandoning it.. would anyone like to inherit it :’(
Hi there! I'm not sure if its considered a request but could you make a tutorial on how you edit mangacaps because I would like to learn to !
sure i’ll make a quick one, making mangacaps is really easy you’ll learn it quickly!! i don’t even bother using photoshop to do it haha
tutorial under the cut, only minimal ps knowledge required!
1. Go to pixlr.com/editor and open the image with the panel that you want to cap. You can use photoshop if you want of course, but I personally find this easier to use because it’s online and much simpler.
2. Use the crop tool to cut out the part of the image that you want.
3. Use the eraser tool to remove the unnecessary parts from the image. I only want Hibari in my cap, so I erased all the background and the speech bubble.
4. This part is really important!! The width of your image MUST be 500px, or else it will look poopy when you post it on tumblr. Right now my image has a width of about 700px, so I need to shrink it.
There are two ways you can do this: go to “Image>Image Size” or “Image>Canvas Size” Canvas size just changes your work space size and doesn’t affect the layers, but image size changes everything, layers and all. I recommend using canvas size to do it because image size often ruins the image quality, but this time I used image size to conserve the width-height proportions of the image.
Make sure “constrain proportions” is checked and change the width to 500px!
5. Now that I have my image in the right size, I can start making it look like my other mangacaps. To do that, make a new layer under your image layer and fill it with whatever color you want the background of your cap to be(I use #fafafa). Set your image layer mode to “multiply”.
6. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I always fix up some lines I don’t like using the brush/pencil tool. Here I slightly touched up on Hibari’s jacket hem and arm. Most people won’t notice though so this isn’t necessary!
7. Final part!! Also my favorite!!! Notice that the image is blurry/grainy/splotchy at the moment due to original scan quality. There are many other ways to fix this, but I find it easiest to use the contrast adjustment(it’s my best friend). Go to “Adjustment>Brightness & Contrast” and pull up the contrast till you think the image looks good enough. In this case I pulled it up to 53, but it all depends on the image.
This is optional, but I like to lower the image layer opacity before finishing, usually to 83% but that depends on the image too. I think it makes it look better, but that’s up to you.
After that I used the eraser tool to remove more unwanted spots and slightly sharpened it(to make up for the ruined image quality after using image size), and voila! The finished product!
Once you get used to it the whole process takes like 5 or 10 minutes, even less! I hope that helped~
I was wondering if I could put in a request for Chrome icons? If you don't want to that's completely fine I just figured I might as well as. Thank you, and I hope you have a wonderful day! I really love your blog.
ooh yes! i was going to make some anyway as part of my icons project so i guess i’ll just pull it up in the order a bit <3
