Kate Tucker is a Nashville-based songwriter, singer, and guitarist. She fronts Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden and is also one half of the pop duo Little Reader. Tucker’s solo work ventures from shimmering indie pop to explore deeper shades of rock, reflecting Daughter, Cat Power and Mazzy Star with occasional forays into a land inhabited by the Patti Smith, The Velvet Underground and David Lynch. Growing up in a family of truck drivers, Kate Tucker became acquainted with the American road from an early age. A sense of place, space, home, and the vast unknown continues to inform her work in both mood and lyric. Perhaps this frequent travel set in motion what would become her musical journey, cutting her teeth in Akron rock clubs, heading overseas to busk the streets of Paris, setting off for Seattle to start a band, only to leave town again for NYC and end up in Nashville, Tennessee. In the midst of this, she’s built a strong catalog of work and garnered a devoted fan base grassroots style, releasing everything on her own independent label, Red Valise Recordings. Her songs have charted both college and commercial radio, landing spots on numerous TV shows, feature films, and video games. In 2013, the full-length feature "Everything Went Down" hit the festival circuit, garnering Tucker a handful of “Best Score” awards for the soundtrack she wrote and placing her on stage at several festivals, including Sundance, Stony Brook and Toronto Intl Film Festival, where in addition to performing music, she has led panels on the intersection of film and music. The film also marks her acting debut as she holds a lead role. After touring the US for "The Shape The Color The Feel" visual album, Tucker returned to the studio, this time for Little Reader, a new indie rock project with Broken West (Merge Records) singer Ross Flournoy. Produced by Mark Watrous (The Shins), Little Reader's debut album "The Big Score" came out this summer. 2017 has been a big year with the completion of a new Kate Tucker record, "Practical Sadness," due out in early 2018 along with "The Shape The Color The Feel" documentary. The film follows the creative community that emerged around what Huffington Post called an “admirably ambitious” Kickstarter led by Tucker to record and release a full length album on vinyl, with thirteen music videos, three short films, and a documentary.
