also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
Today's iPad kid is quite literally yesterday's "shoved in front of a TV for hours on end" kid.

“JUST MARRIED,” Fernando, seated, and his husband, both members of Los Angeles’ Blue Max Motorcycle Club, get pulled over as they leave their wedding ceremony, December 1969. Photo c/o @onearchives. In the mid-twentieth century, the Blue Max Motorcycle Club, along with many other gay motorcycle clubs, provided an alternative to gay bars, which were constantly at risk of police raids and harassment. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #queerhistorymatters #haveprideinhistory (at Los Angeles, California)
fun fact: motorcycle clubs in the U.S. were founded and run largely by gay men who missed the homosocial camaraderie of being in the U.S. military during WWII. the lifestyle and aesthetics of those motorcycle clubs gave rise to many of the stereotypical/classic gay “looks” (leather, chaps, etc) and indeed to the gay leather scene itself (both the gay male leather/biker scene and the lesbian/dykes on bikes leather/biker scene)
Just to add to this - the classic “metal look” that heavy metal rock came to be associated with (leather, studs, tight fitting clothes) was introduced by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, an openly gay man who says he was simply wearing the look from the gay leather subculture on stage, and people started imitating him.
So the two “iconically heteo” fixtures of masculinity - biker gangs and heavy metal music, are both actually just gay culture that heteros unknowingly adopted.

Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.
Thank you to everyone who cleans the world, especially those who are underpaid and under appreciated.
I worked in a supermarket for 7 years and I don't think I can understate just how much cleaning you had to do for it to look clean (it very often where not in the places you aren't supposed to see)
True for food service, retail establishments, gyms, outdoor areas, schools, religious buildings, office buildings, etc. People usually only notice when a space is NOT clean, meanwhile every time a space is clean it’s only because of the diligent work of janitors, maintenance staff, custodians, parks workers, or volunteers.
It's already a lot of work for it to just look clean. Now, if you have to deep clean a bathroom, that can take the whole workday. Which is pretty much impossible in a workplace, be it a supermarket, or some company, because people care not for the fact that it has to be cleaned. So. Those places will usually be cleaned for them to look clean. That's both a note and a warning. Please don't put food or drink on any surface in a public or semi-public bathroom.
BTW, for all the clowns who don't understand a ''temporarily closed'' sign, or locked bathroom door: In an event of a wild gorilla banging on the door, I'd only be like: "IT'LL BE DONE WHEN IT'S DONE, GO ELSEWHERE, BLYAH." bc that's legit how y'all sound like when you're trying to break open the door while I'm cleaning :)
The thing about being a tumblrina is that you provide such valuable contributions to the broader internet ecosystem and you get zero compensation for that. They should be giving us airline miles

it’s midnight, you’re sitting in your room eating mac and cheese when there’s a tapping at your window. there’s a face outside, somewhat unworldly asking you if you’ll help them get home. they smell like the 80s and their skin has a green glow (concept by @woahtherebuddyfriend, playlist by @princessserena23)
it’s late may in the mountains. you open the front door expecting it to be cold but instead the first warm breeze of the summer kisses your cheek. you instantly fall in love (concept by @alpen–gl0w, playlist by @furiouslyinsensible)
you open your eyes and realize you’re underwater. it feels like you’ve been sleeping forever. you can breathe, and you’ve known somehow you were different all your life. there are people like you down here, and they take your hands. you feel at home for once in your life (playlist by @decayingd3vil)
it’s 3am and the only thing you can feel is your sheets twisted around your ankles and the rise and fall of your chest. nightmares are more common than sleep and no one questions your slumped shoulders or the haunted look in your eyes (playlist by @tunastudy)
it’s 6pm in november and it’s dark and rainy out, you’re driving around town with your girlfriend in the passenger seat beside you. the music is blasting and you look over to see her dancing around and lip singing and in that moment, the world stops and nothing else surrounding you matters but how beautiful she looks in that exact moment (concept by @jade-rromantic, playlist by @following-bliss)

Everyone say thank you sanitation workers we owe you our lives sanitation workers
"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Yet, we persisted.

Been feeling a bit hopeless of late. Wasn't expecting to stumble across a quote that would fundamentally alter my perspective and make me cry during my lunch break but here we are
This is an excellent sentiment.
you disagreed w me in an intellectually honest way. we're friends now.
This was on a post about how it's ignorant and privileged to wear headphones in public and I fear its already become a part of my vocabulary. Must everything harbor a moral failure.

personally i think miucrosoft should be sued for what they're doing to the game industry
The future of Senua, which Xbox just announced, is unclear.
Game sold badly? Fired
Game sold well? Fired
Game just came out? Fired
Game not out yet? Fired
Game literally just announced? Fired
Xbox is an active hindrance to the games industry and i think we'd genuinely be better without them and their shitty console no one buys

at the end of a long day, old photographs and sad music aid the nostalgia that you feel. although summer feels a long way a way, you’re reminded that even in the worst moments life goes on and gets better (concept by @angeliclogan, playlist by @thewitchkaguya)
that july when your very best friend finds someone they like better. and you’re left behind, living on stand-by through the following august (playlist by @worriied)
you’re watching people burst and fizzle out all around you like fireworks, while you collect dust. everyone’s special, they say, but that’s a lie. you watch your friends spark and glow and burn out with careful eyes. nothing gold can stay but you are bronze (playlist by @scaphiopus)
you’re in a new arcade with your kinda friend kinda boyfriend. he keeps telling you to choose a game but you’re too indecisive; he says he wants to win enough tickets to buy you something. everything is neon and bright and you’re not holding hands, but you both want to be. you keep getting lost in the arcade. it’s perfect (playlist by @miserabella)
you’re young, full of unfulfilled dreams, and the world is ending. you decide to go to one last concert, where you meet your soulmate playing guitar at the side. the sky is filled with ash, and there’s only 2 hours left, but for once in your life, nothing matters. the band is unable to complete their show, so you and your soulmate take to the stage and play the concert of your lives as the world ends around you (concept by @elvencadenza, playlist by @princessserena23)
