Rose season at Volksgarten

We sit on a bench,

Me on the weathered green paint 

He, content, in his kinderwagen

Pulling out a novel, I continue 

In medias res 

Swirls of languages and rain droplets 

Softly reach my skin They emerge like deer in the wood 

Playful adults and serious children 

Yielding cameras, collecting petals The book stays open on my lap

While minutiae of faces and flowers 

Come into focus all around 

Unimpressive colours: red,  yellow, pink, orange 

Become tangibly beautiful at petal level

Chiaroscuros of juxtapositions 

And the skins and tongues of foreigners 

Mix in harmony with my own

Freckled face and plays of dialects 

And with my tears, no longer hidden behind thorny bush

The exhaustion of life 

Sleeping at my side 

Until we consider: joy comes with exhaustion

Until the rain washes us all

To oblivion
