Grief is one of the strangest emotions I’ve experienced so far in life. The way it ebbs and flows with the passing of time. How some days it can be overwhelming, or debilitating. And other days it can be more like a nostalgic companion. How for some things grief is brief and finite but for others it is life long and ever changing. I think about you most days, and it is often in passing as things remind me of you. Peach iced tea, ground beef cooking, crafting projects. And other days I crave the feeling of a connection to you, crave your presence. And it comes sometimes, in the weirdest of ways. One of my favorites is listening to glamorous by Fergie. Was this your favorite song some may ask? Absolutely not. You let me pick the radio station in the car exactly one time. Glamorous came on, I sang the whole thing start to finish. When it was over, you turned the volume down and asked me “you like that kind of music?” And I said “yeah, it taught me how to spell glamorous” sarcastic as I ever was. Without missing a beat you responded “you already knew how to spell that, N-A-N-N-Y” and then changed the radio station back to never let me pick it again. Some small part of Halloween will always belong to you, just as a small part of my heart will always be missing with your absence.
