Shit, I’m sorry, I didn’t even see you there. I didn’t mean to bump into you.
I guess it's fine. But most people see me though. I mean, I'm really tall.

Drew realized that the redhead had had no ill intention when she fixed her gaze on him, probably just studying him the same way he tended to when coming across a new face. He felt a little bad for startling her, so he moved from his position at the window to kneel down and pick up the book that she had dropped.
"That’s okay, um. Here," he said, handing her the book. He noticed the stack of books in her hand, the spines seeming to be almost brand new.
"Are those new?" he asked, gesturing toward the books, his interest being piqued since reading was one of his favorite pastimes. Another reason why the library had been his choice to spend the day in.
Katie bends down, gesturing for Drew to place the book he had just picked up on top of the stack. "Thank you," she smiled, but her heart was still beating faster than usual from his words. Katie definitely had no ill intention, but was curious about the new face. Finding an empty spot, Katie puts down the stack of books, "I'm Katie, by the way." She extends her hand for a handshake.
"Those? Yeah, they are. Previously we thought it would be a good idea to get a few books that would interest the masses. Apparently people are sick of the classics. I never thought that was possible," Katie said. She felt better speaking about books, because books are what Katie loved most and knew most about. "I could leave these books here for you if you are interested in these titles."
But then I broke in.
What? What for?
The most valuable thing we have here is the broken typewriter.
Hey Ben,
Alright, I promise. Hand over the camera? [He chuckles holding out his hand.]
Oh, thank you. Well, if it matters, I don’t think you need to tan. You’re lovely the way you are.
[she takes the camera out of her pocket and passes it to Ben] You'd better keep your word! [Katie takes a bite of her dinner from the brown paper bag]
Lovely? I've never really been called lovely before. Thank you. [She blushes]
I really don't get it. I remember locking the doors last night...
Since the library was quiet and not a lot of people tended to make it their hobby to spend time within its walls, so it was the perfect place for Drew to spend his time, not having anywhere else to go to be his normal broody self.
He made himself comfortable seated beside a window, just staring out at the few cars and passersby on the street. Soon he felt eyes on him and he turned his head partially, not even bothering to look to see who it was.
"Take a picture, it’ll last longer," he said brusquely, his tone indicating that he didn’t want to be bothered.
It was a regular day at the library, which meant that it was no busier than others. Katie had just arranged the same bookshelf for the third time this month when really, it had been untouched the way she had left it. Perhaps the library deserved more attention around town, Katie thought. But what is a librarian going to do about that? Well, as long as the library wasn't going anywhere despite its lack of interest among people.
With a stack of new books in her arms, Katie made a turn around the shelf to find an unfamiliar back that belonged to an unfamiliar someone. Katie had not met Drew before, or maybe she just did not recognise him. She stared, attempting to figure out who he was. But Katie was slightly taken aback when he spoke. He had noticed her presence. She fumbled a little, dropping one of the books in her arms.
"I.. I'm sorry to bother you, sir. I'm just arranging some books. If you need any help, just call me." Katie turned around, ready to leave the spot where Drew was comfortably seated.
Hey Ben,
Oh, come on, just a little picture?
Oh, thank you. I suppose you could! That does sound quite lovely, maybe I’ll even tan and not look so ghostly.
Hm, only if you promise to keep the picture to yourself.
You do not look ghostly! Just a little pasty, but I am too. I could challenge my skin to tan but I doubt it will. I feel your pain, dear.

Stop staring, I can’t afford a real lunch.
What did you spend all that money on? Come to the library, I'll give you a half of my sandwich.
Hey Ben,
Oh goodness. Wish I had a camera to take a picture of that.
I understand that. Yes, indeed. I enjoy the many people who come in and out of the library and being able to help so many. I like how the sun shines through the old windows, and hearing the cars drive by.
Hm, I do have a camera in my pocket but... you're not getting it!
You're just too sweet. I guess I should direct everyone who needs help to you then? But hey, if you like the sun, we should head out more during the day. The sun's better enjoyed outside than in.
They just don’t make music like they used to…
What music did they use to make?
Hey Ben,
I’m able to wait a little.
Yes, we shall. I don’t exactly hate them, but I don’t really love them either. Are you a night person?
Not me though, I'm getting a little hungry. I might just eat out of the bag while walking to the library.
I'm more of a night person. It's usually quieter at night, you see. Hm, so I guess you're more of a day person?
Hey Ben,
Good, good. [the waitress drops off their food] Hadn’t realized how hungry I am! This all looks delicious.
Me too, and they really do! But we've got to wait awhile before we can get eating. [katie speaks to the waitress to get the food packed]
Let's head to the library before we begin eating, shall we? It's getting dark too. Do you like nights, Ben?
Hey Ben,
I suppose it is.
Yes, thank you.
We shall.
Hey Ben,
Nothing, of course. We both like the library, so I thought we could finish our date there.
Is this what that is? A date?
But if you want to, I suppose the library is much more comfortable.
Hey Ben,
As do I.
Maybe we could take the carrot cake back to the library and eat there.
What's the matter with eating here?
Hey Ben,
Rarely.
What about you?
Me neither. I do get takeouts sometimes, and then eat at the library.
