According to the Canadian Medical Association, 2 out of 3 people suffer in silence in fear of rejection and judgement. That is 2 TOO MANY people who are not speaking about their mental illnesses. That is 2 too many people who think they have to suffer alone. If you know me well, you'd know my biggest weakness are people who are unhappy or depressed. I am drawn to them because I've suffered from it. I know how it feels. I know what it's like. Every day is a constant battle to never feel like that again. Consequently, if I can help alleviate some (if not all) of that sadness from others, I will try my best. This issue affects me deeply, both personally and emotionally. Though I've been doing well for years, I may not always be. I am nowhere near perfect. Not even close. But I try to be a good person with a good heart & always think the best in people. I am told that this is both my best & worst trait. People make mistakes. I believe in second chances & in forgiveness. But I also believe that there comes a point when walking away from toxic situations & relationships is the smartest thing to do. I do not believe in hurting anyone who has hurt me & I do not want to harbor any negative thoughts or feelings on situations that have come & gone. I refuse to change the way I am & the way I love just because it goes unappreciated. I give everyone a chance, what you do with it is up to you. I know the kind of person I am & so do the people I care about. Everyone else is insignificant. At the end of the day, I can live with myself, my actions & my decisions & that is all that matters. #quotes

Mind + Body ♥ I have the yoga studio to myself again today :) "Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event control your emotions". The past two weeks have definitely taken a toll on my inner peace & slowly but surely I am finding my way back towards that calmness. I don't like to harbor any negative feelings or energy, but I'm human & it happens. However, I don't need that kind of weight on my heart, so I work on letting go every single day. They say emotional pain only lasts about 10-20 mins and anything after that is self-inflicted. It's hard to pretend things aren't happening when you know that they are & it's hard to accept things that go against your ideal situation. I recently began meditating in an attempt to silence all my negative thoughts and emotions & soon realized that meditation doesnt necessarily silence your mind, but instead makes you more conscious of how you feel so that you may understand better & begin to let go. You can try to run away from your feelings & your thoughts, but until you confront the things that scare you, you will never truly be free. Let yourself feel the things that hurt you, and eventually they lose their power over you.

Happiness is a choice. Everyday you have the opportunity to change your life for the better...or worse. You may not be able to control certain things, situations or people...but you can control how you react to them. When your mind is healthy, your perspective changes. It's a daily process, but one that will be worth the investment. Take time each day & spend it alone with your thoughts. Hear them, confront them, accept them, then let them go. I feel like I fell in love with poetry all over again after last night's slam. The last few months have been hectic & stressful. The healing power of words and the art of storytelling was all I ever really needed. I feel so inspired to keep writing and practicing and learning constantly. Maybe one day I'd have the courage to share it. This guy right here is the main reason I was determined not to miss last night's slam...and we got to experience it in the front row :) Hands down one of my top 5 slam poets. Pls check out his videos if you haven't heard any of his work. Pls check out a poetry slam if you ever get the chance. Last night was the best one I've been to in Toronto over the past few years. All the open mic poets were amazing, the slam competitors were amazing, and Rudy Francisco made me fall even more in love with him & his words after seeing him live. Clearly, I'm still on a poetry high. I apologize in advance to those who end up in my future poems/songs. This is the first full song I ever completed. I woke up one morning, wrote it, recorded this video a few hours later to remember it, & never touched it again. This was almost two years ago in 2012. I was waiting to feel more confident about it, and until I could do a proper recording with no mistakes, but I kind of like the imperfection of this video. Eventually I will probably record it for real. Anyway, don't be surprised if I take this off public again...but for now, ENJOY :)
