I (barely?) made my Goodreads 2019 challenge - reading a few kids books in there - mostly with BigMac, and re-reading part of the Harry Potter series with Monster, helped me fulfill the technical goal of 15 books. Setting my goal about the same for 2020, and hoping to see more of my own books in the results at the end of the year. I had ~5 books I started in 2019 and never quite finished, so hoping to get back to those.
The Finding Fred podcast is fantastic, about the radical, revolutionary, and even subversive spirituality of one of America’s favorite children’s heroes. I heard this quote attributed to Mr. Rogers in episode 3, in a discussion about how Rogers was an ordained Presbyterian minister, whose calling was to minister to children and families through mass media. And he did it without ever talking about God. A lot of people are picking words for 2020, but I haven’t found a single word that encapsulates my vision and dreams for this year. But I keep seeing quotes and poems that speak to where I am and the world I want to help create. Although Rogers was Presbyterian, this particular quote is remarkably aligned with my UU theology, where salvation is possible in this life, and something we fight for as a part of an interconnected web of relationships with others and the earth.
