skipped week two, but somehow i already have three bingos
the last couple of weeks filled a lot of squares:
almost kiss, donβt leave, memory wiped, you came back, that look againβ¦
only a few left now
trying sci-fi this month has been interesting. i think i love it more on screen than on the page, but iβm still hoping one of these books proves me wrong
Hi guys! This year Iβm doing the 12 months, 12 books challenge because i really wanted to read more. π«
I figured the best way to better my writing (besides actually writing more π ) is to read.
Different genres, recommendations, books i wouldnβt normally grab off the shelf...
Itβs August now and so far iβm doing great π my best friend did this challenge last year and Iβm so glad he told me about it - itβs been such a fun way to stay consistent with reading!
I thought iβd share it with you guys π
January
π title: Snape: The Definitive Analysis of Hogwarts's Mysterious Potions Master. An Unofficial Exploration
βοΈ author: Lorrie Kim
π genre: literary analysis
β rating: β β β β β (5/5)
π thoughts:
Iβm not the biggest Snape fan, but this was so interesting and detailed! I learned a lot & honestly recommend it to every hp fan β‘οΈ
π thoughts:
Read it after my boyfriend finished it π thrillers arenβt usually my favorite genre, but this one was definitely anything but boring. And that plot twist?? Did not see it coming!
March
π title: Sunrise on the Reaping
βοΈ author: Suzanne Collins
π genre: dystopian / sci-fi
β rating: ππππππ (6/5!)
π thoughts:
Favorite book of the year so far! Hands down. π Suzanne Collins is simply the best in this genre. Iβve been a fan since the very first hunger games book and she still has me completely hooked. I had this one preordered and ended up reading it all in one sitting, deep into the night. absolutely amazing! π€π₯
April
π title: Fable (World of the Narrows)
βοΈ author: Adrienne Young
π genre: fantasy / adventure
β rating: β β β β β (5/5)
π thoughts:
This one is for everyone who liked my pirate au π΄ββ οΈ it has that perfect pirate vibe that made me long for the secrets of the ocean π a sweet love story is there too, but not the main focus, which i actually really liked. The second part of the series is gonna appear further down on the list as well!
May
π title: The Physicists
βοΈ author: Friedrich DΓΌrrenmatt
π genre: classic / play / absurdist
β rating: β β β ββ (3/5)
π thoughts:
I wanted at least one classic on this list and picked this one. it was a good read, short enough to finish in one sitting and absolutely absurd π it even had me smirking a few times while reading.
π thoughts:
Something light for summer πΈ My mum recommended this one and it honestly felt exactly like the kind of book sheβd enjoy. Super lighthearted, funny look at family dynamics and of course a happy ending (this woman loves a good happy ending π). No big surprises along the way, but still a really sweet, easy summer read!
July
π title: Namesake (Fable, Part 2)
βοΈ author: Adrienne Young
π genre: fantasy / adventure
β rating: β β β β β (4/5)
π thoughts:
Told you the second part of Fable would appear on this list π not quite as strong as the first, but a really satisfying end to the series. Had me falling even more in love with West ππ
August
π title: Promise to love (sadly there is no English Version of this book)
βοΈ author: CarΓ¨ne Ponte
π genre: contemporary romance
β rating: β β β ββ (3/5)
π thoughts:
Another recommendation from my mum πΈ didnβt enjoy this one quite as much as her first pick. it was okay for light beach reading - has a P.S. I Love You kind of vibe, so if youβre into that, youβll probably enjoy this one π
September
π title: King of Wrath
βοΈ author: Ana Huang
π genre: contemporary romance (add a little bit of spice)
β rating: β β β β β (5/5)
π thoughts: I LOVE a good "arranged marriage" in a novel! And this one...damn! Read it within 24 hours because I simply couldn't stop. I love a good slow-burn and Dante definitely made it worth the wait ππ
π thoughts: Suuuper spicy and explicit! I really enjoyed the slow-burn and the chemistry between the characters β it totally pulls you into the deep South vibe. The setting and personalities felt so real! I think I still liked King of Wrath a bit more though β the language there was a little less dirty, which made it feel smoother overall π
November
π title: King of Pride
βοΈ author: Ana Huang
π genre: contemporary romance (add a little bit of spice)
β rating: β β β β β (4/5)
π thoughts: Absolutely loved it! Not quite as much as the first part of the series, but still sooo good that I ended up ordering the remaining three parts that have been published yet πβ¨ I also really love how inclusive the stories are!
December
π title: Christmas Eve Love Story
βοΈ author: Ginny Baird
π genre: Christmas-themed romance
β rating: β β β ββ (3/5)
π thoughts: It was fun for the holiday season and definitely got me into the Christmas spirit some more ππ« In comparison to the other 11 books I read this year, I just didnβt have quite as much fun with it as with the others, but it was still a cozy festive read βΊοΈ
I have not and will never play the game Bloodborne. It is a beautifully designed game with great world building. I have watched numerus playthroughs and know that I would never ever finish it. That being said, I love the game. The many, many interpretations that can be had, the characters and the story telling and world building make this such a good game. This comic series just expands on things that you learn about in the game. You can learn more about the Healing Church, the Hunters, the scourge of the beast and so much more. If you like the world of Bloodborne and the art, architecture or characters in the game you should check these out. I think there are two other graphic novels in the series that my library didnβt have at the time I read these, so I havenβt read them yet.
My deepest thanks to @TBSkyen / @ohnoitstbskyen on youtube for my favorite playthrough of Bloodborne and FromSoftware Inc. for this beautiful game.
