Henry: I'm calling your mother right now.
Carl: Go, face the dragon!
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: I'm just being worried!
Henry: Have a good sleep and rest well
Henry: Yeah, I guess. I love you, you idiot.
Henry: those smile faces are creeping the shit out of me.
Carl: :)
Carl: BOO.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: I'll call your fucking mother if you don't get more sleep than fucking four hours, I swear to all gods. 1pm is good. Bring something to eat if you may, my fridge is empty.
Carl: Now that's what I call a threat! Okay, I'll try.
Carl: Food will be provided :)
Carl: Goodnight!
Carl: Je t'aime?
Carl: :)
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: What time is morning and can it be around lunch because if you will show up I need to have Afghanistan reports done beforehand, meaning now and my head needs some encouragement.
Carl: Since it's midnight, my morning is probably 4am but lunchtime is fine. 2pm?
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: You did and I liked the image. But you know, I'm after some two long months of drought.
Henry: oh God now there's that. Why didn't you stay? I'm starting to have second thoughts about needing time to think.
Henry: What is there to think of?
Henry: God I am so fucking dumb.
Carl: I can always be back? Preferably in the morning since I'm getting ready for sleep as we speak (??????? ? ? ?)
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: I'm going to put away writing those reports now and you're going to tell me. The 'really hot' part got me interested.
Carl: The mental part was way hotter I guess? Because, come on, you know we can get pretty hot and on the other hand there's nothing hot in sitting under the shower and playing with my own dick.
Carl: Or is there something?
Carl: Have I really sent these texts...
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: Oh so this is what was really hard! Why I didn't think of it earlier? So how it was? A cold shower or a really hot one? (It was the former in my case.)
Carl: The really hot one, in a lot of ways.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: Sooooo? Did you grow impatient?
Carl: Considering that I've run out of photos to look over and have done a couple of other things... The patience has prolly given up sooner than expected. How bad it that?
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: Oh. The big mess thing... I don't want to sound picky but you've been there and done that already, can't you just not do that again?
Carl: Fair point. I won't.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: and I'm not even trying to hit the target, as it seems. I don't know what is going on, you tell me, you started.
Carl: I just wanted to do this cat's curiosity thing I guess. The only difference was that I didn't jump onto your desk, causing a big mess.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: ?!??!??!?!? NOW THAT YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION YOU DUMB... ughhhhhhh. WHY.
Carl: THIS TEXTING IS A FIRING RANGE
Carl: WHAT'S GOING ON
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: Keeping your hands off the phone, of course. Since we established that, what do you want, I need my brain elsewhere.
Carl: I'm setting it aside again then.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: You're addicted.
Carl: Depends on what you're referring to.
[Aglokay] txt
Henry: Keep your hands off the phone, maybe it'll be less hard.
Carl: They've been kept off the phone for quite a while though.
[Aglokay] txt
Carl: Not bothering you is harder than I thought it will be :)
[Aglokay] â whatever you put out there is gonna come back
Before Henry could react, the Frenchman announced that heâd be going. It was better than asking Carl to leave which would be even more troublesome. Windsor didnât have any idea for this, his thoughts were more troublesome to tame than on any other occasion and it was perfectly understandable. He was holding back, ha had to, he was supposed to be hurt party even though he was pretty much sure that soon he would throw this a bit artificial, forced distance away.
He was going to be all serious adult about it; waiting for Drier to come back from the kitchen. Thinking about what should be said, he was caught off guard when the Frenchman decided to place a kiss on his forehead. Damn, it felt like hard reset. A strong shiver went down his spine; looking up with questioning gaze he stumbled upon Carlâs smile. It was so calming and reassuring that Henryâs mind immediately brought back the idea of asking Drier to stay.
âI guess weâre even for now.â It was all that Windsor was able to say without thoughts slipping through his mind.
He walked his guest to the doors feeling again like a sixteen years old after that trip to Scotland. Theyâd come back to Buckingham Palace, both cheerful and looking at each other as if they would never split. Theyâd never promised each other to be together forever - it would be naive⊠All the prince remembered was how they were hiding their hands tangled together, how each touch was a promise, how each look was hiding a note of teenage, unrestrained lust. They werenât kids anymore, stuff happened to them and yet they were standing facing each other next to the door, trying to find appropriate words to say. Henry took a deep breath.
âThank you for coming and telling me. Itâs everything for me right now but I have to⊠I have to think. Donât worry about that. I will always welcome you with open arms, Carl. After all, you were my first and Iâd be happy if you were my last.â
Wow, it seemed more than it should be said but it felt so right in this particular moment. Just donât cry you idiot, just donât cry, not now, wait till he leaves.
âYeah, Iâve been telling myself a second ago that everythingâs okay and thereâs no need to worry but youâre way more convincing. Iâm happy that today things went the way they did, thatâs all I could dream of so thank you, Henry. And I wonât bother you too much -- well, maybe to remind you about taking some sleep and eating while this thinking process is happening, after all none of us is good at this kind of multi-tasking.â Carlyle opened the door and turned his head to the other man before leaving. âTake care, Henry. And, once again, je tâaime.â
Instead of taking the elevator, he walked down the stairs and left the building through the main exit. His car was parked at the underground parking area but Carlyle definitely needed a cigarette and a secluded place to deal with the welter of thoughts that had taken over his mind the moment he left Henryâs apartment. He walked around the building and stopped by the back door to the parking lot. Lighinting a cigarette, he leant against the wall.
Henry mentioned their trip to Scotland that was supposed to be yet another travel during the holidays and nothing really special but turned out to still be important after over two decades. It was pure self-searching, awkward and clumsy attempt to answer the questions none of them expected to be asked. Carlyle kept all of the precious memories of oddness and happiness, of discomfort they found so easy to overcome and of shivers that every touch was causing. Everything was new, exciting and strangely scary but still more pleasurable than anything else before that.Â
They had no idea how any of these emotions work. Carlyle was a weird nerdy teenager that spent his whole life buried in books so his interpersonal skills needed a lot of development to reach an acceptable level and Henry knew well how to behave during royal parties but had no idea how to deal with any of the surprises Scotland had for them.
Very little details were left somewhere and lost forever, he could recall almost everything and todayâs awkward kisses reminded him of all the amazement and weirdness both of them had to face many years ago.
But Carlyle and Henry were different men. The teenagers were gone, they didnât have to hide their tangled up hands and surreptitious glances, they could share all these moments without fear and awkwardness but all the bad things had also left significant marks on them and ignoring those wasnât possible without using that pernicious denial shortcut. Denying that the mistakes were made couldnât possibly be the way of rebuilding trust. Carlyle was ready to wait, after all Henry had been waiting for way too long for him to finally get a grip and when he did, a letdown quickly followed.
Carlyle stubbed out the cigarette on the ground and made his way to the parking area.
Breathing was easier. Generally speaking.
[Aglokay] â whatever you put out there is gonna come back
Suddenly the air seemed a little less heavy than it was. Henry took another sip of his drink and started laughing once Carl shown off his abilities to turn anything into a joke. It was exceptionally good turn. Huge part of Henry felt relief stepping in the place of stress. Other feelings didnât go away though; there was still this urge that he tried so hard to cage because now wasnât the time. He wasnât that easy; a few I-love-yous mightâve convinced him that everything will be okay but he didnât plan on just letting things loose because his body was aching for it. These fifteen minutes were draining his batteries, not to mention that he still wanted to go for that walk. Actually in this very situation the walk couldâve been like an ointment for a sore muscles. Oh yes, he might just take his phone and play some music and go for a walk. The prince was happy and after these Corgi-related jokes he smiled shaking his head. He missed this.
âThere are three of them, you wouldnât stand a chance anyway. Theory of fighting coffee tables? Like, a manual from IKEA?â Windsor didnât even want to stop The Frenchman. Itâs not like he didnât want him to stay - of course he wanted, to be entirely honest he wanted much more, but it wasnât the best time for that.
Oh, yes, this more relaxed atmosphere and the overall clarity of things were relieving. Way more relieving than Carlyle expected because it wasnât supposed to be that easy to switch between serious talks and throwing jokes around like nothing had ever happened. Heâd apparently forgotten that theyâd been around each other for thirty fucking years and most of the things didnât even need elaborated explanations because one little glance could be enough for the train of thought to be understood by the other side.
âI wouldnât dare to pick up the gauntlet,â he chuckled and quickly finished his coffee. It was time to go, leave Henryâs personal space for some time and keep in mind that nothing went wrong. That he didnât fail this time and that there was no reason to analyze each and every detail, looking for potential mistakes and torturing himself. Nothing good had ever come out this process. âOkay, Iâm gonna go now, yeah?â Carlyle smiled, got to his feet and headed towards the kitchen to put his mug into the dishwashed.
He returned to the living room and stopped by the couch Windsor was sitting on. Leaning forward, Carlyle placed his hand on the other manâs shoulder and kissed Henryâs forehead. âI had to repay the debt of awkward kisses,â he explained, a wide smile spreading across his face.
