The Veil Has Been Lifted
Before this course, I would probably have considered myself a fairly tolerant individual without realizing the danger in believing that. As a budding linguist, I’ve been taught certain methodologies that allow me to make neutral, productive, and progressive critical analyses of individual discourse. That being said, from the first Davis reading I was intrigued by the lexical impact of “normalcy” on our cognitive processes and subsequent political and social behaviors. Introducing concepts of intersectionality and identity politics as valuable (and accessible) perspectives will hopefully have a healing impact on our fragmented world/communities. With a deeper understanding of variability, I have accessed a new capacity for grace and patience that I hope will translate to everyone I encounter.
