I musta practiced Grant Hill's stutter step more than my crossover as a kid. In hindsight, I probably shoulda been working on my crossover more. Fila always stood for fresh, fly and original. I never strayed too far away them as the 21st century came about. As a matter of fact, when they began re-releasing their classics, I quickly copped with no hesitation. It didn't matter if it was "in". What mattered was it fits MY aesthetic. The simplicity of their gear says all that needs to be said without being extra, which is why they've always been a personal favorite for me. Truly overwhelmed with all the Birthday wishes and affirming messages from my loved ones. My main ones showed out for me this weekend and reminded me how much of a blessing it is be around who want to see you thrive and keep you going when you're not all the way there. [Post 1 of 2] The work starts now. Election Day has come and gone. Democrats have control of the house in New York State, as well as the House of Representatives. New York City in itself is now officially Democrat. So the question remains, what next? I don't have all the answers, but I do know all politics are local. And one of the most important charter revision proposal on the ballot was term limits for community board members. I strongly encourage you to do the work and get involved in your communities and a great place to start is on these local boards. Be a member if you can. Go to meetings! Stay in contact with board members , as well as local politicians. Hold their feet to the fire. If they not doing what the community needs, vote them out! No more of that "I don't mess with politics" nonsense, cause the folks who sign your checks and raise your rents do. If you want them to continue to have dominion over your life, continue to be apolitical. Don't expect things to change because of your inaction. No matter who's in office, the activity of the locals dictate the direction of the nation. Always had a great level of respect for Dwyane Wade, but he's out of pocket with this classist, bootstrappy statement. Some of his fans in Miami-Dade County are hourly wage workers. Bet he want thinking about that when he tweeted this. Minimum wage workers are the backbone of this society, the hardest working group and the least paid. If the myth of working hard actually meant something in the country, they'd be running the country lock, stock, and barrel (Kwame Ture voice). Not only do they work to survive, but they frontline to improve the workplace across all sectors, not only for themselves. So for celebs like him and those who rush to defend this statement, put some goddam respect on the working class. Williamsburg, May 2018 Adjusting My Glasses. Dick Gregory taught me the 3 most important rules of living with the eyeglasses of awareness. 1. Once you have them on, you can't take them off. 2. You can't force anyone else to wear them. 3. You must have patience and compassion for those who have never put on the glasses, or even heard that such a pair of glasses exist. Learning how to come to terms with the world around you and your place in it is a continuing process. You don't ever completely arrive at awareness (I prefer that over "woke"). It's a journey that lasts beyond the physical vessel that is our bodies.
