Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!

Heads up that this is a very extensive questionnaire and might be daunting to a lot of writers (myself included). That being said, it is also an amazing questionnaire and I will definitely be using it (or at the very least, some of it).

For the record, there have been times I put this much care into plotting every. single. aspect. of my worlds, but I do NOT recommend it. You can literally spend years planning every detail of a world in advance, only to use less than two percent of that information in the final work-- or WORSE, you might find that you have a better idea as you continue your project, but changing every ripple-down effect on the world becomes a monumental task.

It's true that these are the components of a well thought out world. But if you're trying to write a story, please, PLEASE start by planning the plot and characters. All worldbuilding should serve the plot and characters, to not only make them more believable but make everything tie in together. Heck, here's my actual recommendation: during the first draft, only figure out worldbuilding details as you need them. Once your first draft is done, then iron out the details that are already in place, fill in the gaps in your notes, and while you do your second draft, you can make changes to any parts that don't match your final worldbuilding plans.

Your honor, I plead historical accuracy. As any time traveler who's been to the year 3342 can tell you, everyone in that era is super hot.

Chekov's Gun is the literary principle that unnecessary details should be removed from a narrative. It's often summed up as, "If a gun is shown to the audience, it must eventually go off."

I prefer this version: "If a staircase is shown to the audience, an asshole must eventually fall down it." I call this principle Praxidike's Staircase.

Is this helpful for writing better narratives? Absolutely not.

Should you do this anyway? Fuck yes. And then send me your story, because I want to read about more assholes falling down the stairs.
