The key phrases for the First Quarter lunar phase are “take action,” and “build new structures to support our intentions.”
And another phase which matures (i.e. becomes exact) smack in the middle of a void Moon. I’m getting so sick of these. (“Too bad,” replies The Cosmos.)
Once the Moon enters Scorpio (13:35 UTC on Tuesday the 21st), we’re still in for some rough sailing, mostly due to power struggles, taking ourselves too seriously, etc. Extra special pompous and throwing our weight around. It’s always a good idea to take note of any objections people may have, and then take action.
We get an Opportunity Period, at least, from 22:49 UTC on Tuesday until 21:48 UTC on Wednesday the 22nd. “This OP is favorable for anything, from the arts to finances to romance.” Just be aware that during this time, Eris stations retrograde (possibilities of Wider World Events that may shake us up, or not). The Sun enters Leo during that OP, which (I hope!) makes it easier to be more authentic and (well) sunny.
(There’s only one more OP in July, next week; and only one in the entire month of August 2026 - if you use these, well, take advantage while you can.)
The Moon is void between 21:48 UTC on Wednesday, July 22; and 01:07 UTC on Friday, July 24. During that stretch of time, Mercury stations direct. We’ll get some kind of “feel” for an idea, though almost certainly not (yet) an ability to articulate it very well. With a couple of important planetary stations happening so closely together - and a third, Saturn Rx, on tap for Sunday the 26th - we’ll still want to sit with the energy for a while before we take any drastic action.
The Moon is in Sagittarius starting at 01:07 UTC on Friday, July 24. Recklessness, preachiness, and intolerance - all of which seem to double down when challenged - building up to the Gibbous phase (Saturday, July 25, 12:40 UTC). It’s a better idea to work harder on cultivating our more generous, optomistic feelings

Not the most popular transit, Venus/Virgo is said to be in its “fall” - i.e. it’s in the sign opposite that of its “exaltation.” Anything in its astrological fall has been likened to “staying in a strange house where you don’t know the rules.” What we try to do with that on this blog (!) is view it as an opportunity for the planet to pick up a skill or two which it otherwise wouldn’t bother with.
Astrologer Steven Forrest (in The Book of Earth) wrote that the main feature of Venus moving through Virgo is recognizing that “loving is a skill I can develop and deepen over time.” (And not just love for one’s romantic partner - for someone like me, determinedly single, that would be love for my kids and my siblings.) It’s less about how you do it, and more about how they receive it. Sometimes we elders, for example, don’t want ten dozen roses or diamonds or a meal at a fancy restaurant - we want help with the grocery bill &/or a prescription, someone to shovel the snow in the winter, maybe someone to actually pay attention to us and prove it. We have to be more attentive to the other person’s actual life - what they are like and what they do in reality - and not what we think is best for them, or what we think they should want.
How it all may manifest in Venus’ various areas:
Art - this is a great time to work on technique (eg, scales and arpeggios for a musician). Virgo has a definite “arts and crafts” side to it - and we want our creations to be functional and pretty.
Beauty - think Ingrid Bergman: neither flashy nor ultra-feminine, “just” a healthy overall vibe. We’re looking at ways to reduce, reuse, recycle. My mom was a Virgo with natal Venus/Virgo, and she was heavily into “mix-&-match” clothing.
Love - we’re baking them cookies and pies! But usually we work hard to demonstrate our love in useful ways. (“I love you so much I mowed your lawn!”) But we’ve got to watch out that any “helpful hints” don’t degenerate into nagging and criticism.
Money - back-to-school shopping goes front and center. There may be some frantic-ness - “I need more pencils than this!” This can be a pound-wise but penny-foolish transit - we’ll throw away what seems to be pittances for little trivial items, especially on love/romance, but that all adds up.

July 10-11 - we’re starting out with good intentions, and the realization that there’s always room for improvement. Don’t let ego take over, though.
July 13-14 - sudden, surprising difficulties, and the necessity of making sudden, surprising adjustments. Are we really listening to our partners/loved ones? We may be pushing people into situations they just aren’t ready for.
July 16 - some trouble focusing, along with (uh) disinterest in romance, nudge nudge. Remember it’s only temporary!
July 19 - more of the pushing people into situations they just aren’t ready for, and they’re angry about it.
July 22 - the need to make adjustments, maybe making up for a mistake or a misjudgement we made. Be the grown-up.
July 24 - a pleasant (if not very deep or long-lasting) interlude. Communication is highlighted. We’re really listening (and hopefully being listened to!).
July 26-29 - maybe the most significant interlude of the whole transit, involving a massive Full Moon over the 28th/29th. There’s a definite “battle of the sexes” vibe afoot. A tricky balancing act between not being taken advantage of, and arrogantly trampling over others. Previous prideful attitudes manifesting in new ways. Take an emotional step back and use some discernment.
August 2-3 - ending uncomfortably, with (again) some loss of focus. Domestic quarrels; walking on tenterhooks so we don’t piss anyone off. (The mental image I just got was, “Walking in someone else’s shoes, only to discover that the cat pooped in them.” Ugh.)

The key phases for the Balsamic lunar phase are “let go of the past,” and “envision the future.”
Who saw “holly and mistletoe” and went mentally straight to Yule/Christmas? (Raises hand) That is actually not a bad framing for using the energy of this phase. Where would you like to be by the end of 2026? When the time comes (the New Moon next week) we can have a decent, workable intention ready to set for that. In the meantime, we can let our imaginations and fantasies run wild - and then at the New Moon, use our intuition to choose something to help us get there. Especially if we take pains to stay focused and grounded, this can be a great time to dream big.

Mars isn’t very happy in any of the Air signs (Libra, Aquarius, Gemini) - all of which would rather talk and think about doing the thing, rather than Mars’ choice of actually doing the thing. Get ready, then, for six weeks of potential discomfort and indecision - or, six weeks of improving your Mars game.
In The Book of Fire and The Book of Air, astrologer Steve Forrest wrote about this placement and transit and “the courage to know.” Somewhere along the line, we got faulty information, and we need to address that. We may also find challenges to finding our authentic voice and speaking our minds with courage. Others may be fighting different battles simultaneously, on different fronts. (Every time Mars is in a mutable sign, it reminds me of the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, when Capt. Picard is careening between three different points in space/time.)
How this sometimes manifests in Mars’ different areas:
Physical strength - this is a good time to introduce some flexibility &/or cross-training, either specifically targeting that, or at least mixing it up a bit. If you usually swim, go for a jog, for example. You may not even realize how bored you are with your current program.
Energy levels - can fluctuate of course; it’s a mutable sign. Gemini doesn’t always (want to) listen to its physical body.
Sexuality - remember, Air signs would rather think/talk about the thing, than actually do the thing. Beware of your mouth running away from you. Geminian curiosity can make us a little more experimental than usual.
How we go after what we want - here is where Mars can pick up a really useful skill, namely, flexibility. Can’t do Plan A? Okay then, time for Plan B - and so on through the entire alphabet. It isn’t Mars’ preferred way, but it’s useful. This area comes out more negatively when we think about the blend of Mars’ legendary impatience, with Gemini’s legendary tendency to get bored quickly. Be on the lookout for that kind of misalignment.
Allow 2-3 days on either side of these transit dates. The more significant ones are in bold.
June 29 - uneasiness, a la Dylan’s “Thin Man:” “Something’s going on, but you don’t know what it is, do you?” Not a major issue.
July 2-5 - if we’ve had difficulties in accepting something, this is where “I can’t go on like this!” happens. If we’re open to them, there are “suddenly” so many possibilities…! Even if we’re on an even keel, or think we are, there’s a lot of volatility to the Overall Vibe, so be careful.
July 9 - good for communicating with partners. Without having to try too hard, we understand each other well.
July 14 - this is a day for minor irritations, except sometimes those little things accumulate and set us up for future explosions.
July 19 - an excellent day for “working on ourselves,” as we called it back in the 1970s. We get some very useful insights (if not very profound).
July 21-22 - possible minor communication glitches. This may be where “faulty information” is exposed.
July 25-26 - not a good day for partnerships; there’s suspicion to be overcome, and possibly pushing our partners before they’re ready.
July 29-30 - during (and entwined with) a Full Moon, no less. We get new information or new plot twists, concerning an old problem. Definite “battle of the sexes” energy, with some commitment phobia thrown in. Be as ready to listen, as you are to speak - and vice versa.
Aug 5 - a great day for working &/or talking out issues. We’re a little more verbal about expressing our grievances, but also a little more inclined to focus on solutions.

A lunation for which the Sabian Symbol doesn’t require a whole lot of pondering - in the chart for the Crescent phase, we’ve got the Moon very closely trine a triple conjunction in Aries between Pallas, Vesta, and Saturn. That old sea captain definitely knows what she’s talking about. She has plenty of past experience to draw upon, and she’s more than willing to share her creative ideas about what worked in the past, with us. So listen up!

This month holds two full moons, inspiration, and some very hopeful energy.
Most of this month holds energies of change, healing, resolution, and abundance.
You may feel strong urges to make changes in your routine, invest in your well-being, buy a lottery ticket... whatever it is, try to say yes. Small changes, can bring big results this month.
Be open to the unexpected, and you’ll see magic.
