Shameless, unapologetic confession post; My love letter for Mackenzie Davis

I saw the movie today, it was 2 hours duration, I knew I was so excited to see her and as soon she came out my nostrils were flaring so widely. And after the movie ended, I got my period when I knew I was late a few days………..

SORRY NOt SORRY BUT HERE’S WHY (also warning this will be a long thirsty post because Mackenzie deserves to be gushed and praised more)

Aside from the fact that GIRLS have to know her more… 

She came in the first 15 minutes looking like this

I first noticed her in the TV Halt and Catch Fire in 2014, because she sported THIS hair cut in platinum silver even long before T:DF came out. Eversince the show came out I kept her on tab and followed her career.

Like Brie Larson, she started off in indie movies, mostly rom com, and slowly getting recognition in block busters and always with the fun characters like:

SHE’S A WEIRDO. On an interview she mentioned she was addicted to video games and decided to quit because she’s one of those who wouldn’t shower or go outside just to play games. Her interview with Conan O’Brien she was asked whether it was true that she collects carcasses (started from an owl that regurgitated bones from its prey) and made art from them, when asked she responded and said yes it’s true and explained the whole process, including how to reduce carcass odour so her rented apartment doesn’t smell ominous to her neighbours and landlord.

During the interview with Craig Ferguson, Craig has a side kick interviewer bit that went by the name Geoff Peterson who is supposed to be an animatronic human skeleton, Mackenzie admits that she’s obsessed with Geoff and keeps flirting with the skeleton during the interview which prompts Craig to say, “Hey you’re flirting with my appliance!”

Would you ever do a tutorial on how you color?? It just looks really great

i assume you mean my newer cel shading type of colouring! here’s a run down how i created one of the good omens sketches.

note to start off: i did not complete each step exactly like this, i go back and fix parts of drawings as i go along but this is a breakdown of the order the layers were created in & is my rough workflow currently when colouring sketches.

here’s my brushes since i know some is gonna ask, i just used a nice hardbrush with no opacity for like 90% of it and a soft airbrush for other parts (they should be obvious which was used for what)

the opacity percentages of the layers are not anything useful, i just wanted to give you guys what i was using, i like to be able to adjust every part of the shading so hence so many non-destructive layers.

the atmosphere layer is the one i’ve found the most useful currently, sometimes i just like my images with the flats & atmosphere. Occasionally i’ll colour my lines as well but i still tend to keep the colour very light so the flats details peek through the most rather than the lines dictating the light and dark parts of the image. 

i love this technique at the moment since its great combo of speed & flexibility and nice looking images!!
