Our next match today features two newcomers for Round 2, two very different Dragon types even!

Mega Ampharos is our first contestant here, the Electric type that gains the Dragon type- alongside a excellent new mane of fluffy hair! Mega evolution energy has apparently awakened long dormant dragon's blood, that also reactivated the wool growing genes that were present in its pre-evolutions. And with the energy comes a huge power boost! It gains 50 points in its Special Attack, putting it at 165, enough to blast a hole in just about anything. Mega Ampharos is also the only Electric type Mega to have a dual typing, making it stand out amongst its fellow electricity generating powerhouses. And Mega Ampharos is literally a powerhouse too, as it creates an electric defensive barrier that shocks anything that gets too close! Can this new dragon shock us all in the competition then?

From a newly turned Dragon type to one of the all time classic Dragon types! It's Mega Garchomp- original flavour, not Z. Where regular Garchomp has arm fins that it uses to aid its flight, Mega Garchomp has scythe-like blades that can tear through pretty much anything! Enraged by seeing its fins becoming purely weapons, Mega Garchomp's already dangerous disposition becomes more violent than ever, swinging its scythes as it rampages, fuelled by anger. And with its ability Sand Force, Mega Garchomp's already deadly Ground, Rock, and Steel type moves- powered by 170 Attack- become even stronger, so you really don't want to face this thing in the middle of a sandstorm! If you're looking for sheer strength, power, and rage, you won't get much more than what's concentrated in Mega Garchomp- does that earn it some votes?

And it's a clean sweep for Mega Ampharos! Despite being a fan favourite Pseudo Legendary, Mega Garchomp clearly doesn't have the je ne sais quoi necessary to win this contest of Megas.

okay i'm reading the semantics chapter of my language development textbook now and i know i've already posted a bit about the wacky methods researchers have employed to test infants' and toddlers' linguistic knowledge, but this is a really fucking great one.

so they were trying to figure out if children use syntactic knowledge to learn new vocabulary, specifically in this case they were researching two year olds. with verbs, some are done to a person ("x hit y") and some only have a doer ("x laughed"), and they wanted to see if these different sentence structures had an effect on how toddlers learn.

they got some grad students, put one in a rabbit costume and one in a duck costume. they had the rabbit repeatedly push the duck into a crouching position using their left hand. at the same time, both the rabbit and the duck were moving their right hands in a repetitive circling motion. they had a bunch of two years olds watch this. with half of the kids, they said "the rabbit is gorping the duck!" and with the other half, they said "the rabbit and duck are gorping!" afterwards, they showed two videos at the same time to the kids, one with the rabbit pushing the duck down but no circling motion, and one with both making the circling motion but no pushing. then they said "where's gorping now? find gorping!" and the kids who had heard the first statement would consistently look towards the video of the pushing motion, while the kids who heard the second statement would consistently look towards the video of the circling motion.

so it provided good evidence that kids do learn new words using their knowledge of sentence structure! my textbook says it's called the "syntactic bootstrapping hypothesis", which is also a fun term. anyway, i just think it's a fucking hilarious way to have tested this. imagine being a linguistics grad student and your advisor is like "hey i got this furry suit. i'm gonna need you to put this on for research purposes."

I love species swap and Eridian Grace, I love the angst of Grace being forced onto the Blip A while sleeping, I've only really seen it from, 'They took him while he was sleeping cause no one was there to watch him sleep' but hear me out, He ended up there cause their was someone watching him sleep.

Like, Grace gets close enough with Eridian Stratt and Eridian Carl (or equivalents off ya know) that they trust each other to watch them sleep, then same as cannon something happens and they need an replacement scientist on the ship, they ask Grace, he refuses, even after the given time to decide he still refuses, except he's told that they will find someone else, only for the next time he goes to sleep, with Stratt and Carl watching, he wakes up on the Blip A already departed from Erid, with and Eridian sticky note explaining that he is the solution, that he's gonna do great ect.

Grace who is now too scared to have someone watch him while he sleep, stays hidden away by the engines, who keeps scurrying away to sleep when he meets an Alien, who still watches the alien sleep, who finally asks his best friend to watch him sleep when he is injured and vulnerable after entering, who finally feels safe again, cause Rocky won't let anything bad happen to him, he's proved that.
