When I went through lies of P Overture for the first time it truly did feel magical and inspiring but looking back at the dlc what do I think?
I like the idea of the Golden cricket being a teacher for Carlo in a way she acts as his guide throughout his life. It’s feels like clever play on the original dynamic between Pinnochio and the Cricket since Carlo was the boy our puppet is based off of. something I love about this game is the way it adapts the characters of pinnochio in a way that feels grounded and the dlc continues that idea even further.
I really like the emotional core of Overture. Geppetto’s Puppet meeting Legendary Stalker and the idea of learning who this character was. But most importantly I love the heart of Overture being about how much love we have for our family and loved ones. Everything ties back to family in Overture even with the Brotherhood’s letters they feel like they are included there to subtly support that theme of family. it is genuinely heartfelt and even more tragic looking back on how the brotherhoods story ended in the base game.
I like the idea of Lea Passing her sword onto us almost as if she’s trusting P as the future generation to continue her work trusting him with her legacy and choosing to trust that even if she doesn’t get to see it someday he can make Krat a better place then it is during her time. Lea was Carlo’s guide but in a way she also became the Puppets guide and although we didn’t get to see what he does next I like to think the Puppets ultimately took on her legacy becoming the next Legendary Stalker
I truly love the heart of Overture and think that it was well executed my small issues with the DLC are mainly concerning other characters than Lea Florence and P
1. Besides Parrot and Lea we don’t get to really know who these new characters were.
Missed potential with Markiona. I remember there were a lot of people were speculating that Markiona would have a major impact on the story yet the only way she impacts the story by giving us a Key?
We learn of a past between Lea and Markiona that looks very intriguing but it’s only small glimpses in a recorded message. Lea’s Relationship with Markiona inside their past ultimately goes nowhere.
I don’t consider the state we met Veronique in as actually have met her and getting to know what her personality is like because we quite literally see her in her darkest moments. She’s not in her right state of mind.
This is one of the only times we might ever see Veronique and it’s sad because we never really got to know her and maybe that can be seen as a tragedy in of itself.
I actually quite like Lumacchio he has the most screen time of all and he portrays himself as a righteous nobleman yet he is not who he appears and has been masking his true self the entire time behind the scenes he brutally executes threats backstabs and hides. He has no respect for the bastards ideals of Honor.
From Parrot we learned about how Lumacchio used to be a good man before and so the mystery behind what caused Lumacchio to become so Selfish is an interesting one.
I just don’t know what he sees that’s so dangerous to him in P? Markiona had a good reason to go after P there’s a Murderous puppet loose that she’s gotta deal with. Lumacchio doesn’t really have a reason to go after him over Lea. I think it’s because he eventually started seeing P as a threat to him but there’s no reason to see P in that way since before their combat encounter he’s not watched P fight. This is just a random guy he met today and for some reason he prioritized that guy over Catching up to Lea.
His goal was killing Lea in overture but for some reason he got distracted by P. I think it could be that Lumacchio somehow realized P is Like Lea and he’s just as powerful as her therefore the unknown Puppet became a threat to him maybe he was Stalking P watching how he fights but it’s not explicitly stated anywhere that’s the case.
2. Some of the information on the DLC makes me wanna ask why is this not in the Base game? I know some of these things are ideas that were ultimately cut from the base game but why weren’t characters who will become important figures in the DLC like the leaders more set up? Why didn’t they have more of an effect on Krat?
3. Some Boss fights in the DLC are separate from the goal of Finding Lea and do not progress that storyline ex: Markiona Ruined Overseer.
The main Goal of Overture as established by Gemini is to find Romeo and Lea to save them before it’s too late. That’s a noble goal but during overture there are moments where we actively go out of our way to face opponents that don’t progress said goal of finding them forward.
I think Veronique and Lumacchio work well enough since during both encounters it’s not like our puppet was actively searching for a fight with them. They were ambushed and having to fight them in order to progress their search for Lea.
The Base game seemed to set up that Gemini knows Legendary Stalker somehow but it’s not explained how or what their relationship is like. Gemini although carrying out the role of a Protagonist has a past that is filled with mystery and so it’s only natural that the DLC with Legendary stalker should expand on that right?
Instead Gemini who is usually one to talk and was the one who wanted us to find Lea in the first place stays silent until the very end where the game makes you think you’re about to learn something about what kind of relationship Gemini has with Lea but then doesn’t??? Lea doesn’t really seem to notice Gemini at all or react to his presence in the DLC.
During the Black Seaside a moment with Gemini was added where he reminisces on Legendary Stalker and says “Lea was my-“ suddenly stops speaking.
I’ve talked with people about this before and a lot of people don’t like this moment and I have to agree. If the writers were not ready to admit what kind of relationship that Gemini had with Legendary Stalker that’s perfectly okay. But you didn’t have to include this scene that makes your audience think we might learn something about it only for the conversation to be nothing.
We already have evidence that Gemini wasn’t one of the Monad sibling because Overture sets up that there’s only two children of Valentinus with the painting of Lea and Sophia. So talking that information at face value what is Gemini’s relationship to Lea?
