@kazemizuki
i love you art HHHH can you give tips on how you choose ur color for your art?? itâs so pretty
thank you so much!! :â) hereâs a tutorial of my process:
1) i like sketching on off-white backgrounds (*ÂŽâïœ*) for this softer style i avoid black lines because they can blend into muddy colors or stand out too much (but for bold, poppy art i think crisp black lines look really great!!)Â
i usually choose a warm color and make it darker/less saturated so that itâs less likely to clash
2) on a layer below the sketch, i use the lasso tool to create a quick base. (itâs better to color manually because paint bucket can leave some white lines, especially if youâre using chalkier brushes.) then i can just lock transparency and color without worrying about missing edges or leaving gaps!
3) i start coloring the skin! there are some hard edges (like the eyes) but iâll also use a soft brush to add a darker gradient to areas like the cheeks and fingers. itâs a simple way to add some life to a character
the image on the left is for photoshop users! i marked the tools iâll talk about later
4) the color choosing part is mostly just a lot of intuitive trial-and-error but i have a few tips! when i shade, i make the color darker but also move it towards a different hue to prevent things getting dull/flat. my coloring is pretty subtle (orange -> red, blue -> purple) but some artists make really exciting shading using combos like complimentary colors! the techniques will depend on the mood of your piece
you can use a white-black gradient map to check your color values. it should be readable both ways!
also, solid color (the âcolor fillâ layer in the image) is great for photoshop users that resize the canvas a lot!
5) gradient map is one of my favorite techniques!! itâs on a layer above the drawing. i think it makes things look a little more cohesive. sometimes thereâs a reason to make it 100%, but i usually tone it down
6) finishing touches: i make a copy of all the layers except the background, merge, and then render/clean up! make sure to preserve some textures though
then iâll tweak it with vibrance and curves and some other neat photoshop techniques iâve talked about here :D
i hope this helped!! link to finished piece âš
is it better to use a base colour when colouring characters? i notice other artists do this but im not sure why?
i just think it makes it more convenient!
first: just using brush to color under lineart
second: using lasso tool to create base layer and then locking transparency to color (i also mostly used lasso tool to block out the inside colors)
using a base layer i canât accidentally leave gaps, and using the lasso tool the outlines are neater, so if say i wanted to transition into a lineless painting itâs a lot easier!
these brushes! i mostly use erodible point 1 for lineart ( á )Ù
i love your art so much!! i really like the slight 3D blue-red effect you have on some of your art!! how do you do it??
itâs really simple!Â
first hide the layers of everything you donât want to put the effect on and make a new, blank layer over everything else
then press command+alt+shift+E to make a merged copy of those visible layers. double clicking that layer will make the âlayer styleâ window pop up, and you can deselect the G and B channels
use the command+T hotkey and your arrow buttons/mouse to move the top layer and get the effect! you can move it as much as you want (here i moved it farther to the right)
My neck, my back, my anxiety attack
sorry i stopped talking to you my anxiety convinced me that you hated me, whoops

âCats arenât that good with children.â
âCats donât miss you when youâre gone.â
âCats donât comfort you when youâre feeling down.â
What a load of crap !!! One thing for certain⊠cats donât give a ratâs ass what B.S. you tell about them. They refuse to care less, either about what you think of them, or about the people they love.
âCats donât miss you when youâre goneâ is a ton of bs. Whenever I leave to go anywhere, I can hear my cats meowing at the door within moments trying to find me. They sit in the window watching for me to come home and they are at the door to greet me almost every single time.
Cats also grieve. This cat watches a video of their owner who had passed away and he tries to cuddle up with the phone. The look on his face when they zoom in on him brings me to tears every time.

I donât know about you but Iâm so sick of that omnipresent association of sports/fitness with weight loss as the ultimate goal.
(PS: Iâm not sure how efficient punching people is for building muscle mass but Iâm afraid sheâs had a lot of opportunities so I guess four pounds is probably realistic?)
I wish⊠I WISH I could somehow reblog this HARDER and with MORE LOVE. Sorry to put more non-art stuff in my main tumblr here, but goddamn I feel this so hard. Iâve been hitting the gym with the goal of making a good habit, so that when winter comes around and the inevitable S.A.D. creeps back into my life, Iâm more likely to get some exercise as a coping mechanism just out of habit. Iâm also weightlifting because I want to get strong (like ox, you might say).Â
I do not care if I lose weight, Iâm not keeping track of my pounds, and if I stay chubby but get stronger I will be just as fucking happy. So glad I found this comic, and so glad I found your art Ephi! New watcher ahoy! <3
This is a Good Comic.Â
Do it because it feels good!
when my little brother was even littler my mom came up with the ć°ć ć bunny game to get him to eat
(it took forever for him to finish meals)
Avoid video games that use extrinsic motivation. A video game should at least mostly rely on intrinsic motivation, meaning that the playing of the game itself is the fun part, not the reward you get for playing the game. If you donât enjoy the gameplay, but you want to earn lootboxes, youâve fallen into the intentionally exploitative system operating within so many games nowadays, and you need to find another game, because youâre not having fun.
It doesnât sound serious, but this kind of thing can make depression way worse if youâve already got depression.
this is also bad if youâve got an addictive personality/gambling addiction or poor impulse control
this is true and i never thought about it. Itâs that feeling of needing to check off all the boxes, without any actual enjoyment of it. Itâs a very autistic problem for me; i crave pattern completion, but it can come at too high a cost.
âBallet embraces the soft, ethereal and majestic side to women, and yet we often donât see the media portray black women in this light. My project aims to reveal that women of color possess these qualities. We too are capable of portraying the princess, fairy and swan.â
 âAesha Ash
Aesha Ashâs prestigious career has included world class roles. Yet sheâs now on to a different mission, with three big goals. She wishes to see ballet become more diverse. She hopes to inspire youth from rough areas to pursue their dreams. And she wants to show the world that tough environments canât hold back talented people, especially those with ambition.
Aesha performed professionally for 13 years. She attended the legendary School of American Ballet; joined the New York City Ballet at age 18; and has danced solo and principal roles for companies like the BĂ©jart Ballet in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Alonzo King Lines Ballet in San Francisco. Now sheâs focused on The Swan Dreams Project, in which she uses imagery to tackle stereotypes placed on black women. Aesha commissions photographers to snap her as a ballerina in her hometown of rugged Rochester, New York, and in Richmond, California, and then donates proceeds from photo sales to organizations helping advance inner city youth. She also donates images to organizations for their fundraisers and to people seeking more positive imagery for their children or groups.
The dancer points out that black women have always existed in ballet, yet few become principals, the highest tier of dancers. When Misty Copeland became the first black female principal with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre last summer, Aesha found the milestone a moment to celebrate, yet sad and troubling that in 2016, weâre still celebrating a first. She hopes The Swan Dreams project will give more dancers â and youths in general â the chance to be celebrated for their own talents.
Rochester has one of Americaâs highest crime rates. But Aesha hits the streets to prove that her hometown is more than violence and gangs. Thatâs where her Swan Dreams Project comes in. âMy community saw that out of our environment came a ballerina, not just negativity â a little black girl from inner city Rochester actually went on to become a professional ballet dancer in a top-tiered company,â Aesha said in a one-on-one interview for this report. âYouth followed me on the street saying, âThis is what we need. This lifts us up.ââ
