'I want the K' //kazenomusuko
There was something beautiful in the way she slept. Something in her face… he couldn’t quite place it. Normally, she looked like a perfect statue. Smooth, painted porcelain and marble. Lovely, of course, but unreachable in a way.
Yet when she slept, her complexion turned entirely human. She was relaxed, drifting in her own subconscious, and Suzukaze swore he could see the ghosting shadow of frown lines bordering her lips.
Normally, she was beautiful, but asleep, she was stunning in her vulnerable humanity. Especially when she fell asleep reading in the grass, and he knew that she had been here all afternoon, so engrossed in her book to ever look up from it.
A sigh escaped her chest. The novel was hugged against her chest with one hand, still open to save her place. By now, he thoroughly understood her attachment to these types of books. They were a rose-colored escapism, and showed her the possibility for great love and life that she didn’t think she deserved.
…They’d have to disagree on the latter.
Deftly, his hands slid the book out of her hand. He folded down the corner of the page she was on– and happened to catch a brief glimpse of where she was in this particular novel. Near the end, when the dashing lord was asking his common born paramour to marry him.
“…You’re quite the tender heart,” he whispered, glancing back down at her face. “If only you’d show it, I’d be even more entranced.”
He placed the book down in the grass beside her, shrugging off his cloak to drape it over her like a blanket. She let out another wistful, dreaming sigh, and he couldn’t help but to lean down and brush his lips over her forehead from above.
“Dream of something sumptuous,” he encouraged. “…Something like… a ninja who spies on the subject of his affections, to better know her heart and his own… Yes, I’m sure that would make quite the novel plot, wouldn’t it?”
