I’m desperate so I finally made a YouCaring to fund my surgery… (hopefully)
I’m Arin, and I’m 23 years old and transgender (FtM). I’ve been physically transitioning for two+ years now through HRT, and I literally need to get something off my chest: surgically. Because I was in college for a short time, I got screwed over by student loans and my credit score crashed, and my wages garnished. I don’t qualify for loans, financing, or nice insurance because either A), it’s my bad credit. Or B), I don’t make enough income. This is my second attempt at starting a fundraiser for this, as my first didn’t really take off anywhere and I got discouraged and gave up for a while. Because it’s a new year and I want to turn things around I decided to try again. I’m tired of being sad and depressed about my body and the restrictions/limitations I have without this surgery: I can’t go swimming, I’m in constant pain everyday for compressing my chest and ribs, and I feel so out of place and dysphoric: like I don’t belong. I was hospitalized twice in 2017 because my depression spiraled. This surgery would bring me to my full potential, but I have exhausted all options and have become desperate. Please know that anything helps. I just need to feel and look like how I’m supposed to be.

What’s next? “We are writers, not readers?”
I’m a director, but I don’t watch movies.
I believe the phrase is “Never trust a skinny cook.” How can we as consumers trust your vision of an artform if you’ve never experienced the artform?
It’s the same reason any writer will tell you that you HAVE to start out by reading the classics. Learning the rules. What worked, what didn’t, and creating a niche for yourself by experienced what’s come before.
If you don’t even attempt to be a part of the consumer base you’re providing for, how can you expect the consumer to trust your vision as an experience worth their money? What with all your competition perfectly willing to be a part of the culture.
In the light of recent news, I think this quote should say everything.
Take a note from Nintendo, the backbone of the gaming industry since inception. A love for the art will help create the best art. You don’t have to play every game, be a part of the mainstream, but outright shunning the idea of being a gamer? That’s not a sustainable rationale if you have any interest in being an artist, or having a healthy career. You’ll hate every minute with that attitude. Whereas people like Iwata-san will absolutely love the fact they get to be a part of the community AND a content creator.
