4x10: Paper Hearts

Mulder discovers that John Lee Roche, a child murderer that he helped put away years ago, had more victims that he originally confessed to.

Mulder is led to finding the body of the 14th victim through a dream

Scully and Mulder discover 16 cloth hearts hidden in a book, which means there are still 2 more bodies to find

Roche is manipulating Mulder's memories, leading him to think that one of his victims was Samantha :(

Mulder takes him out jail to try to prove if he's lying (he is), then proceeds to lose him (somehow doesn't get fired)

Mulder shoots Roche, saving a little girl but losing the chance to learn the 16th victim

Mulder is spiraling a lot in regards to Samantha, and Scully is in protective-mode here, defends him to Skinner

Score: 9/10 ❤️

Watch it? Yes, it's a stressful one (horrifying little girl killer) and it's hard to watch Mulder makes a series of bad decisions based on his emotional state, but I do love a vulnerable Mulder that Scully will protect from everyone else.
