Shock and Surprise in Festerwound!

Upset in the long-forgotten case of Porrim Maryam this week, as a civilian witness recently uploaded footage of the actual events which took place on the day of her disappearance. The footage shows that the noble imperial drone was not in fact attempting to protect her from an assailant, but was actually trying to detain her for unknown reasons. The responsibility for the drone’s destruction, using as-of-yet unknown means, lies not upon an alien captor, but on the once upstanding citizen herself, Porrim Maryam. After performing this blatantly illegal and irresponsible act of sabotage against our public defenders, she left a seditious message in graffiti on the nearby wall, the private property of a local business owner, and many surely unsettling texts littering the ground nearby. It’s currently unknown why this evidence was not present when news crews arrived only hours later.

In order to prevent the potential of public unrest by means of viewing this horribly graphic footage, empire officials attempted to remove the video entirely. Unfortunately, the internet has taken it upon themselves to save and spread this footage in as many places as possible, likely as a form of shock video. The troll responsible for the original recording is unknown, as it was uploaded completely anonymously. Officials are investigating and have assured us that anybody undermining public safety is being investigated to their fullest ability.

It is unknown how this relates to the disappearance of Kankri and the antics of fugitive Meenah Peixes.

Noted Writer Goes Missing Under Mysterious Circumstances

Early in the morning yesterday residents of Festerwound reported a series of odd happenings culminating in the disappearance of one Porrim Maryam, who wrote an advice column for the popular fashion and culling magazine Lususfriend under the pseudonym “Karrah Boudit”.

Using the available intel from the two primary crime scenes and eyewitness testimony, investigators have come up with what they believe to be the most likely series of events. First, while taking one of her apparently frequent daytime strolls through the town, she was assaulted by some sort of alien assailant, who chased her down until a noble imperial peacekeeping drone attempted to protect her and was sadly destroyed in the line of duty. Aggravated, the assailant injured her and dragged her back to her hive in another part of town, forcing her to unlock it so as not to trigger her security system, and looting it before abducting her aboard their mysterious and inscrutable ship and taking off.

A noted friend, confidant, and coworker of Porrim’s, Jenzah Talshi, showed up to the scene and, while fortunately unhurt, was unable to fight off the assailant. She declined to provide commentary, but was notably shaken by the events and loss of her friend. She is set to take custody of Porrim’s business holdings until she can be located.

Porrim was a known acquaintance of recent missing persons case Kankri as well as high profile rebellious criminal Meenah Peixes before her true motives were revealed. Authorities are still looking into whether or not these cases may in fact all be closely related.

Newly Promoted Crocker Corp CEO Jane Crocker Steps Down Amidst Research Controversy

DECEMBER 20, 2019

Earlier today, an anonymous hacking group revealed that Crocker Corp has been conducting research into brainwashing and mind control. Multiple US Congress members have spoken out and condemned the company after this revelation for its unethical practices. The hashtag #OurMindsAreOurs has been trending on Twitter in response to the reporting. Until now, Crocker Corp has been silent about the alleged evidence.

The Crocker Corp Board has claimed responsibility of some of the documents, but their official statement, just released, implies that many of the documents were doctored and/or taken out of context. The statement also indicates that the CEO, Jane Crocker, who took on the position merely six months ago, was largely responsible for the initiative that developed into the alleged mind control research, as she was the one who brought the lead researcher, whose identity is unknown, into the company.

As a result, Jane Crocker has stepped down from her position. It is unclear if she will remain with the company, and if she will face criminal charges.

BREAKING: Anonymous Hackers Reveal Crocker Corp’s Unethical Research Division

At 12:03 EST on Friday, multiple major news outlets received an email from an anonymous hacking group containing numerous incriminating documents detailing Crocker Corp’s hidden research division and the research into brainwashing and mind control that has been conducted since 2016.

The alleged documents indicate that Crocker Corp has been cooperating with the Empress of the Alternian Empire, and that the company has spent over billions of dollars on the funding of neuroscience research for the purpose of mind control. The alleged documents also show that the research has progressed into a field-test phase, and that Crocker Corp intends to implement the research findings into their new line of products and into already-owned products through the guise of OS updates.

Dave and Hal drop you off well outside of Dirk’s neighborhood. You give them a small wave as they head off and then start hiking to the perch you chose with your backpack full of gear. First thing’s first, as you slip through out-of-the-way passages you slide on more and more concealing clothing until somebody would be hard pressed to even note your skin tone.

Even as you walk you rifle through the pack, mostly just keeping your hands busy. You approach the billboard, one of those big ones, on a hill overlooking the area and advertising “Proud Home of Crockercorp HQ!” and that they’re currently hiring.

Well, that sure isn’t going to change tonight.

Right before you meet up with Hal and Rox to get this daunting and brain-fucking (if you were in higher spirits, the irony of that statement would probably draw a chuckle out of you) task over with, you have a momentary flash of fear that you forgot one of Piper’s favorite toys on the very extensive list of care instructions that you left for John while you’re gone for the day. It’s a very similar sensation to the gripping fear of leaving the oven on that most people are struck with at least once in their lives. You’ve been focusing on that and anything else so your thoughts don’t spiral back to the dark and miserable depths of how you feel like a failure as a sibling for not realizing sooner, not doing something sooner. How it could be too late to change anything. How it’s probably been too late for a while now.

If you keep thinking like that you’ll drive yourself crazy. You splash some water on your face, letting out a shaky little sigh before gathering your things. It’s go time.

Porrim and Kankri: Abduct Kankri

It’s not a short drive from the rendezvous to the factory. Neither is quite too far from where you live, but they’re in nearly opposite directions. The distance might help, if it matters. You hope it matters.

The place isn’t exactly packed. It’s just a factory, and it’s a weekend. But it’s also your property, so it’s not exactly odd for you to be rolling in, perhaps to check on something or to work on something that has a deadline. It’s not like there’s a lot of scrutiny around anyways, it’s not a residential zone, and crime isn’t exactly huge on Beforus. You’re free to pull up, sigh, and sink into your seat. You’re pretty sure you were clenching your hands tighter around the wheel than necessary, because they’re sore. Your shoulders are too from holding tension in them. When you’re done burying your hands in your face you pop your door open and turn your head over your shoulder.

His Beforan Culling Bureau (BCB) issued tracking chip looks to have been forcefully removed, and valuables went missing at the same time as his disappearance, pointing to a potential abduction. No suspects have been identified at this time, and it is unclear how far he may have been taken. Investigation is ongoing.
