kory certainly isn’t the only person trying to strongarm dick into some downtime. that list is long, getting longer everyday. and he gets it, he really does - he knows he’s worrying just about everyone he knows by patrolling, but.. it’s what he needs to do. if it means his friends and family show up a little more to spend time with him, that’s not the worst thing in the world.
he’s barely been awake for half an hour when he hears the door swing open, alarm bells going off at the concept that someone could be breaking into his apartment, before he hears the party horn go off and realises a break-and-enter situation wouldn’t open with that. “it’s not for a few more days, you know. you’re kind of early.” he says with a chuckle, scrubbing absently at his hair, suddenly very aware of how half-asleep he still looks. though, next to kory, everyone looks scrappy as hell anyway. except donna, probably. “the whole day? please, you’re too important for that, no doubt someone’s gonna steal you away in a couple of hours. but i’ll take it until then.”
it’s nice to know that some things don’t change. one of those things being that dick can still awake in an entirely different state to how he fell asleep. like a cocoon, kory thinks, and halfheartedly attempts to smother her amusement. it’s incredibly endearing all the same, she thinks. “ you have a saying about the early bird, don’t you? I just had to be earlier. how else would I get away with this? ” kory waves his hand off from his hair without a moment’s hesitation, and roots in her bag for a party hat. she is still scandalised it’s taken this long before anyone has taken her to a party store, but that’s an offence for another day. for now, she carefully puts the hat on dick, and slips the elastic behind his ears.
“ there we are. now you look ready to celebrate. ” she chimes, setting the cake down to steer dick to sit down. she’s not here for an argument, particularly not on dick’s pre-special day, and takes the seat beside him to start putting candles on there. “ and don’t be silly, you’re the most important. today is fully reserved, I made a deal with superman himself. and wonder woman. separately. unfortunately they’re covering someone else on the actual day, so. all day! we’ll have fun, I promise. ”
