Bucky stood by patiently observing the other giving directions to someone he didn’t quite recognize himself. He was assisting in a way that told him he was handed those orders on what to do. Which meant that he wasn’t the main mastermind behind the idea. That and given he looked awfully young. Though he shouldn’t assume. No one would guess he was over one hundred years old just looking at him.
“Don’t sweat it. I just got a question then I’ll be out of your way- you know who’s in charge of these aid centres?”Â
.
it’s not like dick knows everyone in gotham, but - he knows enough people, or at least the vibe of the city, to get the feeling this guy isn’t from around here. a sentiment that’s becoming more and more common, with all these universes having meshed together this way. it’s a little weird, that’s for sure, but he’s doing his best to just move through it. easier that way. “no need to rush away, really. i got plenty of time.”
he pauses for a moment, curious why the man wants to know. “yeah, i do. kinda. i mean each centre has a coordinator but overall they were organised by bruce wayne. owns wayne enterprises, he’s - local to gotham, so. guess he felt compelled to help out.” it’s much deeper than that, dick knows, but when you’re talking to a stranger you kind of figure it’s best not to give all your cards away at once. “colour me curious but why’d you wanna know?”
He’d been walking alongside Dick for a few minutes, having encountered the younger vigilante earlier after leaving Lucius’ office. When they’d been approached, Clark stood quietly as Batman’s second took the lead. Offering a smile as the stranger said their goodbyes, he sighed softly once they were left alone again. “You’re fine,” the Kryptonian assured. “Just glad to have you and Bruce… My idea would’ve brought all kinds of issues…” Weaknesses that Clark hadn’t seen in his plan until Bruce’s earful. Up until that point, having all of the Lost camping on the grounds of the Kent’s Farm seemed like the ideal plan.
.
dick chuckles softly and shakes his head. “your idea wasn’t all that bad. bruce’s idea just has money behind it, so it’s a little different.” he doesn’t mean it as an accusation to either of them. both men tended to think in a way of.. what can they do to help, what do they have that they can offer to those in need. and it’s admirable. but different walks of life take that thought in different directions, which isn’t unusual. he waves for clark to follow as he heads down the street again, tucking his hands in the pockets of his jacket. “pretty sure if you had a ridiculous fortune like he does you’d do something similar. also like - for the record, this is all bruce. i’m just helping out, making sure people know where to go, that kinda stuff. really not a big deal.” he’s not as involved as he would like to be, but.. it’s a process. he wants to believe that, at least.
Laura did not yet unleash her claws, but had tightened her fingers into fists all the same, ready to do so if she needed to. Her eyes quickly noted his costume, looking for signs of allegiance. Difficult to tell, when she knew so little of this world. It was better to treat him as a possible enemy, no matter what he said. Her eyes narrowed, wondering if he saw her as no threat. “I promise you, I am able to deliver on what I say.”Â
Raising her head to examine the threat, she noted that his posture seemed non-combatant for now. Though judging from the easy skill with which he landed from above, it was possible he was capable of a quick attack, like many costumed people she knew, Laura felt confident enough that he did not intend to immediately do so. Still, she was frowning. Remaining wary was the only nature she knew. “You would help me? You do not know me. Do you often help people who threaten you?”Â
not everyone is open to help. working in gotham taught him that to a degree, but bludhaven taught him that way more. the city is so resistant to becoming better, everyone just accepting it for what it is. and he can’t be sure that’s what’s going on here with her, just assuming she doesn’t need the help because it is what it is. but that doesn’t keep dick from wanting to help anyway. “oh i have no doubt. people who can’t deliver tend to be louder and boast way more. it’s kind of like watching a car salesman try and offload something that’s gonna break down a hundred miles in. didn’t get that vibe from you, though.”
it’s hard to explain exactly how he figured she could use a hand. people don’t always take too kindly to the whole oh i’m one of the best detectives in the world so that weird little head tilt you did instinctively earlier told me you haven’t fully got your bearings yet. tends to sound way creepier than it should. “yeah, it’s a thing i do. probably more often than i should. but - i’ve been around for a while, i kinda.. know how to separate someone trying to figure stuff out from someone who wants to cause actual damage. you don’t seem to fall into that second category there, so.. yeah. the offer’s there, if you want it. if not i totally get that too.”
After changing into a more casual attire, Bruce left the Wayne Enterprises building, deciding to walk to the nearest aid center that’d been set up in Gotham City. He wanted to make sure the recent urgent supplies request had already arrived, and see if there was anything else Doctor Thompkins needed. But on his way there, Bruce spotted his son and changed directions, their greeting cut short when someone else walked up to them. The older man remained silent, brows furrowing as he observed the exchange between Dick and the apparent new arrival. To think Bruce had dared to believe they would be able to have some peace after defeating Steppenwolf.
“For now, that’s all we can do.” With limited information and the fact the other worlds were left in a state of destruction, neither the new arrivals or the locals had many options to consider. With a sigh, Bruce turned to Dick. “How are things in Blüdhaven?”
.
as nice as it is to have bruce becoming more involved, making more of an effort, it’s still.. a little strange. dick finds himself halfway between wanting to accept the slow return of the man’s support and feeling hesitant to do so in case it all goes to hell and he closes himself off again. but if there’s one thing dick has always managed to be, especially when it comes to bruce, it’s a hopeful optimist. he sees the best in bruce, he always has. he always will, he’s sure. he hopes, at least. so he does his best to remain relaxed as bruce approaches, glancing back to the people he’d been directing for a moment. “i know, but it doesn’t seem to feel like enough sometimes.” he laments, shaking his head before he turns to face bruce. he looks.. tired, but that’s not unusual, and definitely not unexpected. “about the same, but - a little more chaotic. which is kind of the usual. i’m kind of waiting for the BPD to get more organised but they’re barely equipped to handle the city on a normal day, when you add this to the mix...” letting out a soft sigh, dick shrugs his shoulders. “they’ll get there. they always do. where’re you headed?”
“okay, two blocks that way you’ll find one of the aid centres set up to help out the new arrivals. i promise they’ll help you find a safe place to live, get you some food and clothes so you can take a minute to figure it all out.” it doesn’t fix it, but at the very least dick can see the relief on their face as they offer him a shaky thanks and head down the street. thank god bruce acted so quickly. letting out a sigh as he watches them leave, dick crosses his arms over his chest. it’s just gonna keep coming, isn’t it? how long until these people actually settle here, or find a way home? letting out a sigh, he turns to his company. “sorry - there’s so many people around here trying to figure things out, the sooner we can get them to the aid centres the better.”
Laura waited until the man at the newspaper stand’s eyes were elsewhere, quickly brushing past and taking one of the papers, flicking it behind her back as she moved on, her action entirely undetected. A wave of guilt rolled over her, but she would return later, as soon as she had money again, and pay back what she owed. Laura was good at keeping track of debt; she had many scores to settle. For now, she needed to learn as much as she could about what was going on. The easy answer would be to join the X-Men. Laura was already trying to track them from afar, keeping them as a last resort, but if she could, she’d rather get by on her own in this new world. The times she had joined them before had not always been … comfortable. She did not entirely fit with them. Admittedly, she did not entirely fit anywhere, but Laura had plenty of experience with that.Â
Her spine straightened, feeling a sense of something or someone on her back. Laura waited until she’d turned a corner before stopping, waiting to double back on whoever was on her trail.Â
“Stop. You shouldn’t follow me.”
Her words were calm and commanding, unpunctuated by any emotion. “I will not kill you, but I do know how to fracture your kneecaps in the most and the least painful way,” she explained, eyes intent and dark. Many underestimated her, seeing only a young girl, but when they looked in her eyes, few could keep themselves from faltering.Â
Laura paused only for a moment, adding as if to clarify, “I will choose the most.”Â
.
old habits die hard, and with so many new faces appearing in the city each and every day dick can’t help but keep tabs on the ones who seem to be.. different. people who it might be worth knowing. of course, following them around in his nightwing get-up probably isn’t the best way to make friends, but he’s not that naive. he’s not about to get caught unawares if she turns out to be a threat.
“you know, i’ve heard way worse than that.” he says with a smile, swinging down from the fire escape to land a few feet away from her. enough distance to not pose a direct threat, but close enough to hopefully have a decent conversation. he holds his hands up to show he’s not here for a fight. “no need to break any kneecaps, i’m not here to fight you. which.. i get is probably hard to believe, given i was following you.” letting out a soft laugh, dick drops his hands to his sides. “name’s nightwing, i’m - from this world, so. figured i’d offer a helping hand.”
Raven had the habit of appearing out of nowhere and blending into the darkness . It was just something she was used to doing ever since she was young . No one really knew she was there and if they did , they had keen eyes .Â
Walking about the city of gotham , in her hand she had some of the apartment listings . Having been here a month , already , staying in hotels wasn’t a permanent home . There were still some she had to see in Metropolis, which was sunnier . Only down side to it , honestly . Letting her hood down , the brunette looked around her . before someone decided to mug her . Making her drop the book she had at hand .
It didn’t take much for them to realize it was a major mistake . But surprisingly it wasn’t her doing . Someone else , stopping them right before her own powers wrapped around their neck . Darkness slithering back to her as she walked towards them . “ Thanks for that.” not that she needed the help but was appreciated . Â
.
another night in gotham, another mugging. he hates to say it but it’s really not that unusual for gotham. if anything this particular situation is pretty tame, given how bad things in gotham can get. or maybe dick’s just too used to things being bludhaven-level of bad and now anything less is normal for him.
still, he can’t just let it happen so he swings into action easily enough, knocking the mugger out before they even know what’s going on and landing on the ground just in front of them. “anytime, not that you really needed it.” dick points out with a smile. it’s good to see raven again, even if things are a little weird these days.
he swoops down to pick up the book she’d dropped, holding it out for her. “what’s going on? taking a gotham-themed holiday?”
&.  ― mena massoud  :  he/him :  cismale :  dc  — a darkness is coming for us all . let’s hope dick grayson is ready for what is to come . to the eyes of the the world they are known as nightwing , whose allegiance is pledged to batfam/titans . rumor has it that dick is 24 and are known to be hopeful , but let’s not forget they can be pretty naive .  //
I PROMISE NEVER TO USE ANOTHER GIANT GIF AGAIN but look at my beautiful son
History ;;
Dick grew up in the circus with his parents - the three of them were known as The Flying Graysons
One night when Dick was 9 years old, the owner of the circus was being threatened for money by a crime lord and Dick overheard the conversation. The owner refused to comply.
Later that night he watches his parents fall to their deaths when the high wire snapped - Dick was left feeling guilty because he didn’t warn his parents in time
Dick went into the juvenile system and, after being beat up by a few inmates, was later sent to an orphanage
This is where Bruce found him and took him on as his ward, giving Dick a chance at a new life
After eventually discovering his new guardian was actually Batman, Dick proved himself to Bruce and chose the mantle of Robin so he could help Bruce fight crime
As time went on and Dick grew in his role he eventually went on to lead the Teen Titans
He came to a point where he needed to step out from under Bruce’s shadow and, after some encouragement and advice from Clark, he takes on a new appearance and mantle - Nightwing. The mantle of Robin was passed onto Jason Todd.
His new mantle lead him to the city of BlĂĽdhaven, wanting to make the city his own and try and clean things up there and prove to himself - and to Bruce - that he could do good on his own
A few years into his life as Nightwing, Dick was tricked into a trap called the Murder Machine by the Crime Syndicate - a bomb that would only disengage if Dick’s heart stopped.
Lex Luthor was able to stop Dick’s heart, “killing” him for long enough to deactivate the bomb but also revive Dick once the danger had passed.
With Dick believed to be dead by everyone in his life, Bruce sent him undercover with Spyral - an organisation of spies, where he was given the title of Agent 37
Eventually his undercover mission ended - not exactly how he planned - and he was able to return to his life as Nightwing.
He’s probably been out as Nightwing again for a year or so before the universes collided and those from the marvel universe were thrown into this one.
Good to Know ;;
Dick is a police officer ! He was one in Bludhaven and has carried on the tradition now
Dick doesn’t have special powers or superhuman abilities but he’s maintained his extreme acrobatic skills which he utilises when fighting. He’s spent years training with the best of the best and can hold his own with the Titans, the Justice League, and Batman himself
He is regarded as the best human acrobat in the world and is one of three people who can complete a quadruple flip
His detective skills have been honed by Bruce for years and he takes pride in knowing they’re some of the best out there
He is tragic with relationships. Dick has had two failed engagements and many failed relationships. He’s flirty and charming by nature but when it comes to actual feelings and relationships he’s terrified of getting seriously involved with anyone because he knows he’s bound to fuck it up at some point.
i’m not using devin grayson’s very problematic romani heritage plotline for dick so please don’t ask me about it
