Her brows knitted together and she cocked her head to the side. “Care to explain?” She had never heard something like that before and although she had some clue of what she meant she enjoyed listening to Baz talk. Keegan was well aware of the power of words and that was one of the many reasons she kept her mouth shut at times, and sadly this may have been one of those times she failed to do so. She was replaying their conversation in her head and didn’t realize she had completely forgotten about Kenneth; she couldn’t bring him up now and Baz was smart enough to know the truth at this point. However, she wouldn’t be openly admitting it just yet. Keegan grew stiff in her seat as she stared at the paper in front of her, thinking of the multitude of ways this conversation could play out now or maybe even down the road. One of her brows shot up and her tongue darted out to wet her lips before she said a word. “You know, I like you Baz. I think I’m going to test you before I speak to Kenneth about a promotion. In addition to protecting the girls, I think I’ll have you protect me too.” Surprisingly Keegan had never actually hit the pole or turned any tricks like many assumed. She and Hennessy had scammed plenty of older men out of thousands of dollars over time thanks to catfishing. Her body readjusted in the chair as he stated that he would give her some bad news. “Okay, I’m ready.” She leaned forward herself, hands knitted together in her lap. “I know...I’ve already thought about that and the fact that even once they do they will probably want to ta-” She cut herself off, realizing he didn’t know all that was going on in her club. Not only did the girls dance but they also were escorts at their own will or did extra sexual favors for cash. In return for providing protection Keegan required a cut of the money. When he mentioned death she shrugged nonchalantly; it had always been something she thought about in the back of her mind but she never feared it. “I’ve thought about that too and I don’t plan on making any waves. I play dumb very well and if I die it’s fine. I’ve already started trying to find someone to take over just in case.” Death was something she had wanted at a young age due to the terrorizing her father put her through and it seemed to carry over into her adult life but she hid it well.
