"If I had to guess, your abilities are uniquely qualified in actually deciphering her- as is your nature. You are a truly just and kind man- better than most of us, really. Maybe... she needs that. I want to say she is trying to find a way to better herself but I know Athena better than that. She is cunning and manipulative and uses her obscurity to her advantage. Unless you have somehow truly captured her affection and she is trying to reach out to you, she wants something from you."

He gives Vassago a serious look. He hadn't looked at his grimoire the entire conversation. He was being honest and frank.

"If you ever need me, let me know. This isn't just because I would logically need to support my son-in-law, but because I want to know what she's after too."

"I mean no offence; it was less what I saw in her, and more about her persuasive arguments." He paused for a moment.

"There is...something about her that worries me, and I wish to get to the bottom of it. She was also dead set in claiming my hand in this marital arrangement." And he ended up giving in.

Despite knowing the words of the conversation, there was no substitute for actually hearing them. The grimoire did not offer vocal inflection. "I see. She is a shrewder dealer than she lets on. I am afraid out of everything I tried to teach her, that is what she chose to retain.

"Tell me what that something is, Vassago. Annoyingly, you've also seen that she's impossible to scry, haven't you?"

"Duke Gusion. I believe it is safe to assume that the reason of my visit is of no mystery to you, but I felt it was prudent to appear in person for the matter at hand," he said, his tone one of seriousness. "I wish to take your daughter's hand in marriage." (Vassago, Lost and Found verse)

"Granted." Gusion muttered about halfway through Vassago's formality. He wasn't even looking up from his book, at least for a while. He stared at it for a while, nearly in disbelief at what he had actually ready. For the longest time he thought this had to be a trick.

No, it wasn't. Athena was finally going to be pacified.

Then a server with two glasses of champagne came in and handed one to each of them. Gusion rose a glass. "May I ask what about my daughter caught your eye, Vassago?"

This was one of those rare situations where he was asked, repeatedly. Practically harrassed to take Athena out for his sister could no longer cut it as the only one with an heir, and the king wanted his little princess out of his hair and onto his.

Women.

They weren't his strong suit... At least not dating wise. He can talk to them just fine, and they could burn daylight with all the gossip they fodder over every meeting.

Athena was one he couldn't pin down well. Her mind seemed to be fragmented and likes to talk in riddles, almost like she was playing a demented game of mad libs.

She was doing it now.

He looked puzzled when asked why he hadn't answered her questions when they've just been sitting here in silence, drinking tea and crackers for the past 2 minutes.

Oh.

Hm. Where does he see himself in five layers? What the hell does that mean?

"I see myself as multifaceted and dependable, I have many layers. I can't simply just be subjected to just five. But if I must. I'm a family man, I work with political officials and keep my work ready, on time and controlled, I take time for myself if the schedule allows it, I practice my powers daily, as of now the constant weather is my own sort of terrarium that allows inhabitants like myself and other ice demons to flourish and work under my command. I've gone to the surface world a couple of times and won awards if you can believe it. It's honestly amazing all the things I can do. Trophies for excellence, mathematics, finding new mathematic theories, discovery of new cosmic events, even yesterday I ---"

He blabbed and blabbed about himself, seeming to have fun with this one-sided discussion.

Athena leaned her head against an elbow-propped fist and tried to see just when this was going to end. All the pathways just swirled around each other. That indigo was just too bright and it swallowed everything.

After a while her plastic smile shimmered and her form seemed to be moving in multiple directions at once. Overlapping afterimages started doing multiple idle tasks and a handful of hums and empty conversation responses echoed out of her until finally one came through more clearly.

"Hmm..... You're too yourself. Where's the rest of you? Where do you go when you're not so you?"

When a tray of dried fish was placed in front of her, she gave a nod to the server and reached for it. Each afterimage picked up one, all phasing into each other in a disorienting blur. Then they all held it up to her long beak and let it slide down, eating them all in one simultaneous go before they all collected back into a singular person.

She seemed insistent on having whatever it is he wanted, so when the waiter came back to take their order, he chose the least spiciest option on the menu. He also added a side order of fruit, just in case the dish he chose wasn't to her liking.

Once the waiter left, his expression became serious. "I highly doubt your father would write out a summons to meet in a place such as this," he said, perhaps a bit more bluntly than he would have liked.

Athena just shot Vassago a knowing look. "You'd be surprised. Daddy does all sorts of strange things. One time he went out on the ground floor of the library with a tailcoat, his boxers, and one sock to take a still brewing pot of coffee from the employee break room, walked it all the way to a balcony and chugged the whole thing. Apparently this was exactly enough of a bizarre sight to cause a few people to bump into each other who wouldn't have met otherwise for reasons he won't say yet."

She tilts her head back and forth for a moment. "Are you confused? I'm confused. But yes, Daddy absolutely would do something like that. He's done weirder for less."

So it looks like it's an overwhelming majority opinion that merging into a multimuse will be useful, but I should keep this blog's name. I was already considering this but I think this'll give me the extra push. I don't know when I'll actually do this but I'll mostly just be creating new pages for Phel, Gusion, Athena, and Baal and maybe a new muse or two.

Threads will be continued here once I do the merger. Don't worry about losing anything. Old blogs will remain as an archive.

I will need to source a new icon and banner, I think, as well as redo my promo.

I'll happily take suggestions on how to proceed! No ETA yet but this is likely to happen.

While Athena was nowhere near the same as Stella, and while he had no intention of cheating, he didn't wish for either of them to be miserable in this arrangement. By leaving the door open for them to take on other lovers, albeit in secret, while putting on airs that they were a happy couple, then they could end up better off.

"Agreed. If an heir is not needed, then it is not something I will concern either of us with. I simply wish to lay out the terms and conditions of this arrangement, should I choose to accept.

That being said: Are these conditions acceptable to you?"

Athena smiled widely from the sides of her beak. "I can see the directions parting." She said with a slight ethereal bent to her words.

She leaned forward slightly, reaching out to take Vassago's hands in hers and allowed herself a sort of girlish coy posture and an eyelash flutter. She was clearly enjoying the charade and leaning into it wholeheartedly. Yes, it was a nameless road. Yes, was a means to an end. Yes, she had basically cornered the Prince into this in a calculated maneuver.

It would all be worth it in the end. She just hoped that they would continue to only walk parallel to each other.

"I do." She responds with a playful tap on his chest.
