PSA to those of my followers who are currently using Windows XP: STOP!
XP is highly outdated and isnât even supported by Microsoft anymore, resulting in a lot of security risks.
For those of my followers who either canât afford a new Windows version (e.g. Windows 7) or canât run a new version (e.g. due to old hardware), Iâd recommend switching to Linux.
I highly recommend Linux Mint for those looking for a good day-to-day Linux distro. Â The Cinnamon edition of Mint offers a familiar interface to those accustomed to Windows. Â It also still looks modern and offers pretty good performance, even on older machines.
Many common Windows programs also have Linux versions (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, VLC, Steam) or have Linux equivalents (e.g. the LibreOffice suite is a comparable free alternative to Microsoft Office).  And many Windows programs (if you really need them and canât find an equivalent) can be run using the WINE compatibility layer.
Computers with 4GB of RAM or more should use the 64-bit version; 3GB or less should use 32-bit.
The OS is free to download and install.  You can download the appropriate ISO from their website and burn it to a blank DVD using a program such as imgBurn or put it onto a bootable USB using a tool like LiLi.
