There’s a blanket on the floor beside Sam’s bed in the opening scene of TFATWS
In the opening scene of 1.01 New World Order, pause at about 1:01 to 1:03, when the camera lingers on the shield on Sam’s bed. Look to the left instead of at the shield and you’ll see a light blue blanket on the floor. Sam’s bed is made in the shot and his room is tidy in the scene. Why is there a blanket on the floor? Because Bucky, at some point, has been sleeping on the floor in Sam’s bedroom, that’s why.
At this point, it’s already been awhile since Bucky was in New York (based on how long he’s been seeing Dr. Raynor in his parts of Episode 1) and we know that he’s been ignoring texts from Sam for awhile. In later episodes, we’ll see though that Bucky already knows Torres, already has sassy opinions about Redwing, had been cleared for military duty long ago and is still referred to as “Sgt. Barnes”– all stuff that indicates that he was working with Sam for awhile. Sam also knows about Bucky’s nightmares and sure while they could have talked about them (and likely did), referring to them as Sam did is also a potential indicator that he has witnessed some.
Sure, you could say that Sam used to sleep on the floor when he was first home, too. That it’s canon because it is– he told Steve that. But Sam’s bed is shown to us (as opposed to us never seeing the bed that we assume that Bucky has in a room in the back of his apartment and just isn’t using) and it’s been slept in, just remade by a guy who isn’t fussy about corners, in large part because of the warm, handmade quilt he has on it. The blanket didn’t just fall out from under the quilt to the floor because *Sam made the bed already* that morning and would have noticed it and pulled it up. It’s *on* the floor, not half-linked up to the side of the bed. Considering the show then is going to then jump to Bucky within the same episode to see him waking up in a panic from nightmares in a blanket nest on his floor, the only really logical conclusion here is that before he went to New York (or while he was going back from New York and DC for awhile), Bucky was living with Sam in DC after they Blipped back and sleeping on the floor in his bedroom.
Not for nothing but Sam has the following things in that apartment…
-at least one couch in the living area
-a bed that looks cozy with handmade quilts in which he sleeps and in which we know he’d have no problem curling up with Bucky in
-a *spare bedroom* in which Natasha crashed in the movies… it’s canon that Sam’s apartment in DC could sleep himself, Steve and Natasha without issue so think of how much room there is if you mash the supersoldier and the ex-Russian operative into one whole person ahead of TFATWS lol.
But Bucky’s been sleeping on the floor in Sam’s bedroom, beside his bed, and even though he and Sam have been apart for a little while at the start of TFATWS, Sam’s *left his blankets on the floor for him to come back like…* *sniffle* …
*Sam*… you beautiful lovesick puppy, you…
