Kelim script: consonants
Kelim has fifteen distinct characters representing consonant sounds. Fourteen are displayed here, and are considered traditional consonants: d, f, ɡ, d͡ʒ (j as in joy), k, l, n, s, t, v, z, r, ʃ (sh as in she), and θ (th as in thing).
The other character is a single horizontal line and represents the m sound. It is only used at the beginnings of words. The m sound also exists at the end of words, but is not written - only pronounced as a closing of the lips at the end of a word.
Consonants are written as a marker on top of the antecedent vowel. No consonants do not precede a vowel, but some consonants may be combined: sh-t, t-sh, s-t, t-s, th-r, d-r, t-r, k-r, k-l, s-k, and k-s. In these cases the consonants are written on top of each other, with the first pronounced being on top and the second on the bottom.
R is always pronounced as a flick of the tongue against the teeth. It cannot start a word alone, but may be used in conjunction with th, d, t, or k at the beginning of a word.
