and more opinions no one asked for!
got to watch the misty creed dmbj movie and! it's good! and better than the first one (aka conjuring curse)! shocking coming from me i know
it's never going to be on par with the books because i don't think anything will ever be (except maybe a donghua adaptation since the qinling bronze tree donghua stays to this day the most faithful dmbj adaptation) BUT both of these movies make a genuine effort at capturing the vibes the books have
misty creed in my opinion is better than conjuring curse mainly for the plot being more focused on the iron triangle and for wu xie especially. i didn't dislike jing yanjun's performance in conjuring curse per se, but i did find him a bit bland for a post sha hai wu xie, so he ended up mid tier for me despite the spirit being there. in misty creed it's clear he's better found the character because misty creed's wu xie is far more believably post sha hai wu xie in all his cunning and ruthlessness mingled with the human empathy he can never entirely shed even if he's still unfortunately the weakest link of the triangle. his performance isn't perfect nor is it 100% of what i'd expect from post ten years wu xie, but he's made good progress all the same and it deserves mentioning
the plot is more personal for the characters, and xiaoge and pangzi are both high tier for dmbj live action as a whole. and unlike a number of other things i can think of, while it's not perfect, both of these movies slot into the book timeline well enough, or at least the setting is ambiguously post ten years later enough that minor details aside they don't clash terribly with any of the main plot
the cgi is also very decent which. very shocking i know but the stylistic choice to conceal and suggest rather than show fully was a perfect one. it allowed for any flaws to be glossed over and managed to give off the eerie and unsettling tone the movie was clearly aiming at
overall nice and fun, distinctly book-oriented in terms of plot setting and characterization (so yes, if there are inconsistencies with the dramas specifically, then consider that might be the drama's fault actually), would def recommend
also possibly unpopular opinion but chen yesheng is a very good xiaoge and i'd argue he's one of the best if not tied as the best but that's a topic for another time 🍵
I agree about the vibes, some of the contextual information too. They threw in some fun easter eggs that tie into the books and it added a layer of fun to it (and hope 👁️). It was also done better than the first one. I enjoy the first one but the balance is much better in here between the Iron Triangle and the rest of the characters.
I liked Wu Xie more in this one as well. He grew on me in the first one but he does feel like he's got a more grounded grasp on his portrayal of Wu Xie in this one. It's really nice to see a recurring cast so we can see that development, as well as nice having more focus on the Iron Triangle this time.
The CGI was fun too! I'm glad they utilized darker environments and the mist so they execute it better. It was nice to have an eerie atmosphere that was more shrouded, like Tamutou was in the books. And you're right. I can see this taking place somewhere post-10 years as well, which is nice since we don't have much from that time frame yet.
Also that is not another topic for another time. I am kicking down your door to say Chen Yesheng is a great Xiaoge, possibly my favorite tbh? I adore Reboot Xiaoge and I always will (as well as lament the constrictions on his acting because of certain directing choices made for his Xiaoge), but I really adore how book accurate Chen Yesheng's Xiaoge is. He manages to portray a lot with his eyes and expressions without being over the top or under the radar. The tone of his Xiaoge is perfect, and he isn't forced to talk, but when he does, it's just the right amount of 'when it's necessary' and the kinds of things he says. His delivery of those lines is really good (and his Xiaoge is also sweet in the understated ways Xiaoge is in the books, which is really really nice to see).
TLDR I love this Xiaoge and I really hope this cast will be back for the rest of the movies (and that those movies are made).
I love he, I love them

Let's Talk About PingXie: Part 4
Let's Get To Know the Artists 🎨
As expected of a fandom that has actively existed and for so many years, there are many talented artists who make contributions for Daomu Biji fandom, whether they are official artists or fan artists. I hope that more people would recognize their hard work and give them "like" and "support". Above all, please do not repost their artworks without permission/credible sources.
I know that some fanarts are too old and still can't find the artist no matter how hard we try (I feel it myself T_T) If that's the case, please explain it clearly and do not claim them as your own. Some artists also have guidelines on the usage of their artworks, such as: no reposting, no self-printing, avatar/wallpaper only, etc. For more information, you can check their profiles/homepages since every artist has their own rules, make sure to follow them, alright? (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧
So, let's talk about PingXie fan artists and Daomu Biji official artists. Of course, only a few... there are too many to put them all here... (ᵕ—ᴗ—)
Please note that some may have quit the fandom, not active anymore, take a break, or indulge in multifandoms. Hopefully, they wouldn't set up their Weibo to only display within half a year, so we can still appreciate their hard work 💖
Note: Mainly on Weibo (🧣), feel free to tell me if there is something wrong.

Cheng Yi as Li Lianhua
Xiaoge returns from the mountain, with a basket of foraged goods, fresh and unusual and most of them only familiar from previous years, when he would do the same at camp, and hand them silently over to Pangzi, by the fire. But this time they are home, and they have weekly deliveries to Xilaiman, and no one is at risk of ever being hungry.
But they're delicious, delicate herbs that no one has learned to cultivate, vegetables that bruise and wilt and cannot be transported by truck, but can be carried down the mountain, wrapped in rush leaves to cushion them from each other. Unique flavors and textures and aromas, and the air of quiet satisfaction around their friend.
Pangzi washes them in the cold of the spring, doesn't let treated water touch them, and cooks the most delicious, fragrant broths, marinades chickens with the herbs, roasts the roots to eat with their skins still covered in ash, dipped in salt and still steaming.
Xiaoge never takes a basket out with him, too bulky, perhaps, for the way he likes to fly through the forest and over the rocks, but he always returns with one. Sometimes woven from the rushes that grow anywhere water pools, sometimes from the palm shaped fronds of a tree fern. Sewn, sometimes, with cord made from the twined vines of climbing plants. Always strong, and neat and beautiful, subtle decorations woven in, chevron and plait and braid.
Wu Xie hangs them to dry on the north wall of the courtyard, their green leaves turning golden in the sunshine, and they use them for harvesting the garden, for collecting the eggs, as fish baskets and crab traps and just because they're beautiful doesn't mean they're not useful, so they use them until they break apart. Because after all, Xiaoge is always making more.
