In case it isn’t clear, that is literally the last bone of a cat’s toes attached to those claws. If you thought only the claw was being removed during declaw surgery, you are unfortunately mistaken. It’s an amputation.

Get claw caps instead! They stay on pretty well and your cat can walk around normally. You can take them off whenever you want. This is great for house cats. They don’t need their claws for defense but they need them to walk the way we need toes. This keeps them from scratching you or furniture and keeps them happy and healthy. It’s a win for everyone. Plus your cat will look like it got a kitty manicure.

It boggles my fucking mind that there are people in this world that would opt to get an animal and mutilate it for life because their sofa is more important to them than their cat.

NEVER declaw a cat. 

You can gently trim their claws every week so they don’t hurt you accidentally.

You can provide them with STURDY cat furniture (carpeted or wrapped in sisal rope) they can dig their claws into (a natural and pleasant activity for a cat) so they leave your furniture alone. Note it can’t be the kind of cheap shit that tilts or wobbles when the cat digs its claws in and pulls. That’s scary and unsettling for the cat, and it won’t use that furniture.
