A doll youtuber I watch has made a video about the history of Polly Pocket, and she's describing the plots of the dvd specials, one of which features an elderly woman named Ms. Throckmorton, and my reaction was

so i'm in my early 30's. anyone else around my age or older just vividly remember how much part of being desirable to men involved not getting pregnant?? men don't like single mothers, they don't like raising kids or doing chores, if you're dating a dude and get pregnant he's likely to leave you, men acting like women they had sex with getting pregnant from said sex were trying to ruin their lives on purpose. just so much of all this and more was everywhere. It was in books, movies, shows etc. We know of women this happened to. it happened to my sister. i was a teen and remember all of this and how it helped to cement that healthy fear of teen pregnancy among other things being pushed. all those shows aimed at my age group showing mothers at 16 and I just always noticed how the boyfriend would fuck off. the consequence of getting pregnant always seemed like loosing everyones love. parents disappointed and community let down.
