My sculpture is a crumpled up piece of an envelope of a congratulations letter someone sent me for graduating. A. I did this because I Fucking graduated!!! B. Because I think the internet is trash. But after this class I feel indifferent. I think that it's sad that people have seen a picture of the Mona Lisa more than seeing it in real life. But at least they get to see it. And c. When you open the crumpled up paper it's a bunch of lines and creases that are all connected at some point, and that for me is an interpretation of the internet
Shit Toots
Parker Ito is brilliant in my opinion. I mean come on, what does shit toots mean??
It’s unlike anything I have ever seen and I am so against artist statements and having to describe your work. I love it so much,
It’s completely different than any other artist statement and catches your eye, even if you don't want it to.
It’s art.
Galen Neil is a genius. So much fun doing this shoot in Hawaii!
Hahaha yesssss
Memes
I have never considered memes as art. And I also never really thought about how harmful it could be to one’s identity. To be honest i’ve never really put thought into memes, I just occasionally laugh and send them to my friends.
“The most popular of these groups is Bernie Sanders’s Dank Meme Stash, also known as “BSDMS.” Derived from “dank,” a term that esteems good quality marijuana (legalized use of recreational marijuana is something Sanders supports), BSDMS is mainly comprised of memes that favor Bernie Sanders.”
I have never seen this meme stash, but it makes since why it contributed to the majority of youth votes. They idolize him and most people only get their information from the internet which is more than often completely false. But they will believe it without even researching. By making memes of Sanders and them going viral on the internet, this is the perfect way to hit the younger demographic.
"Clinton visited the popular hip hop morning radio show “The Breakfast Club.” Asked what she normally carries around while traveling, she responded with “hot sauce,” a sly reference to a lyric from Beyoncé’s single “Formation.” When asked by one of the hosts if she was pandering to black voters, she awkwardly joked “is it working?”
^^^This is insane. I never knew she did this. You would hope the viewers would know what her intentions were behind it. But the meme below it is so funny to me. The more I think and comment about memes, it makes me think twice about what the meme is actually suggesting and the impact it makes on me, the person, animal or object in the meme, and the rest of the world.
Kaelin’s work is definitely considered art, but what makes the original meme artistic?
