Lydia turned afterwards, keeping her back to his chest as she pet Hannah behind her ears, “A bit is a bit of a understatement.”
Kendall shrugged his shoulders, “More than a bit of an understatement, yeah. I’ve missed you more, though.”

Lydia turned afterwards, keeping her back to his chest as she pet Hannah behind her ears, “A bit is a bit of a understatement.”
Kendall shrugged his shoulders, “More than a bit of an understatement, yeah. I’ve missed you more, though.”
“Love you.” Lydia picked her head up to place her lips gently against his for a small kiss. She hadn’t been too affectionate lately. At least, she didn’t make it a point to kiss him as often as she had in the past. Pulling away seconds later, she smiled up at him softly.
Kendall kissed her back for a few seconds, pulling away with a small smile. “Missed that a bit, yeah.”
“Okay,” Lydia smiled gently against his chest, exhaling as shaky breathe as she melted into his embrace.
Kendall rubbed her arm soothingly, also petting Hannah’s head gently as he lied there. “Love you.”
Lydia nodded, moving to lie down beside him. She buried her face against his chest, “Okay. If you say so.”
Kendall wrapped his arm around Lydia, pulling her close to him with a nod. “I promise.”
Lydia shook her head with the tiniest of frowns, “Just want her to be alright. And you, I want you to be alright, too.”
“You know m’always alright. Even when it seems like m’not. It’s ‘cuz I’ve got you.” Kendall leaned in towards her, pecking her temple gently.
“Yeah, she is.” Lydia returned the smile, wrapping her arms around her legs as she began to rock herself back and forth to pass the time by. “Can I get you anything?”
“No, m’alright, but thanks. Mostly just gonna be worried about her, I think. What about you, you need anything?”
“Stop. No worrying.” Lydia assured him, very gently running her fingers through the tips of his hair. “Nothing’ll happen.”
Kendall nodded his head and sent Lydia a weak smile, “Yeah, you’re prob’ly right. Least she’s a good girl.”
“It’ll be an hour, they said.” Lydia hung up, staring over at Kendall as she chewed on her lip.
“An hour? What if something happens between now and then? Shit.”
“I can. Hannah’s a babe. Who wouldn’t want puppies with her? Huh, girl?” Lydia scratched Hannah behind her ears, smiling gently. “I’ll make the call.” She took down the number into her cell, glancing over at Kendall. “You just stay here with her, kay? Stay relaxed.” Apparently she’d been treating Kendall like glass lately, completely breathing him.
Kendall nodded his head and lied down next to Hannah, gently petting her as he waited for Lydia to get off the phone.
Lydia nodded, standing up from the floor to go fetch her laptop. She opened it up, lying on her stomach on the floor beside Hannah as she began to google, “Maybe we should call a vet or something. I can’t, like, deliver babies.”
Kendall nodded his head in agreement, peering at the screen. “Yeah, prob’ly that. One that can come over so we don’t have to try and get her in the car. Jesus Christ, I can’t believe this is happening.”
“I dunno.” Lydia shrugged, “I just figured one morning we’d wake up and there would be, like, hella puppies running around. Like Christmas or something.”
Kendall shrugged his shoulders, “Honestly, same. Is your laptop here? Maybe we can see how to check and shit.”
“Does she need water?” Lydia was no damn veterinarian and didn’t know what best suited Hannah’s needs, but, like, who didn’t love some water? So, she filled up her water bowl and brought it closer, sitting on the ground beside the doggy.
“I dunno. Try it, though.” Kendall pet Hannah gently, “She’s pretty close to her due date, yeah? How do we know it’s gonna happen?”
Kendall walked down into the living room to see a pregnant Hannah lying down on the floor. He didn’t know how the heck she got pregnant but that wasn’t going to stop him from taking care of her. Kneeling down right next to her, he gently pet her head. “Hey, girl. How’re you feeling?”
“Always. Okay? Always and forever.” Lydia smiled sadly, kissing the back of his hand before walking outside to Kate’s car. She opened the front door for him, gesturing for him to sit inside.
“Always and forever, yeah.” Kendall walked outside with her and his mom, climbing into the passenger seat. “Can we get something to eat?”
“Yeah? Okay. I’ll drive you when you have to.” Lydia pulled away, holding his hand in hers.
Kendall sent her a weak smile, lacing their fingers together and squeezing her hand gently. “Thanks, Lyd.”
“I love you.” Lydia held onto him, running a hand up and down his back. “Let’s get you home, yeah?”
“Love you, too.” Kendall sighed softly, leaning his head down and resting it against her shoulder, “Yeah, sounds good. I gotta pick up a prescription in a couple hours, too.”
Lydia plopped out of her seat, immediately approaching him to give him the affection she’d been wanting to for awhile now. Wrapping her arms around his middle, placing her head against his chest as she hugged him tight.
Kendall wrapped his arms around Lydia right away, pulling her in as close as possible to hug her back just as tightly. “Hey.”
