Final

My final art project is definitely something I would hang on my wall. I chose to combine inspiration from the Renaissance and Guerrilla Girls. I wanted to highlight the gender pay gap in a similar way that the Geurrilla Girls did. I covered the man's top half to represent a man doing the same work as a woman. In something like this they would cover the women's top half yet the man would make more money. I chose the Renaissance era because images of nudity were being idolized in art at the time. They didn't cover any body parts at this time as-well. I wanted to cover the man to give treatment a woman would get. But yet a woman would still get paid less. I felt this was very inspiring to combine these two history lessons to give one message. I really enjoyed this project and it is my favorite piece I created all semester!

Dada Assignment

My puppet is inspired by the movie Wicked. It has accents of green and pink. I decided to use a leftover Halloween costume crown, cut up loofa as a pink skirt, the hair is a feather. For the legs I used a beaded necklace and cut out shoes, with the arms I cut up pasta noodles from a recycled box. Lastly the eyes and smile come from magazine scraps!

My puppet danced to the song Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. Floating through the air on such a beautiful sunny day! 💚💗

My puppets name is Poppi. I made this puppet with some inspiration from the weather today. I wanted to use bright colors like the pink I used. I used the song walking on sunshine, again because of the weather today. I think the bow really brought this project together and added a girly twist which I love. Everything but the bow is made of recycled material. The straws on Poppi's arms are what make her mobile. She loves to dance and go on long walks especially when the weather is nice! Poppi is very shy but very talkative once you get to know her.

I made a clutch purse out of an old taco box. Ellie modeled the purse and put both her perfume and her lipgloss in it. This was a super fun project and we now have the taco purse on display in our house!

I chose the Mezocoin Galactic as my new piece of technology. This is a desk fidget toy that uses AI. I thought this was very interesting as AI had a very bad reputation. Using AI is something as little as this isn't harmful and is in fact very helpful. This is use to relieve stress and anxiety. This use of AI in the future in simple things like this will be very excited to watch unfold.

Cubism

I had a lot of fun doing this assignment. I really like how we had to take three different pictures to show how our art developed and our thinking process. For me doing abstract assignments like these come much easier and allow me to be more creative!

For my fauvism portrait I drew i picture of my friend bridget. I choose these specific colors because i felt as if the background of the original post was boring and bland and downplays the energy that bridget always has. I specifically used green to embrace bridget’s Irish culture that she presents in her favorite holiday.

I decided to draw my friend Ellie. To draw her i used blue and purple. I feel like these two colors show her vibrant personality. She is very in touch with her emotions and is always helping those around her. Ellie gives really good advice with a very welcoming presence. The blue and purple combining shows her welcoming presence. I used pink, red, and orange for the background to show her passion. She is extremely passionate about everything she works hard for. She puts a lot of her time into learning about her future career. These colors also she her self-expression. She will always be honest with you and is very passionate about wanting the best for her friends.

I chose one of the endings scenes from Princess and the Frog. Once Tiana is turned back into a human, she looks around and picks up her dress. I really loved the ending of this movie and I thought the motion of her picking up her dress was perfect for this assignment. This moment symbolized her change through her journey. This curtsy shows that she is embracing the change. She is accepting that she is still a princess through all of her perseverance. This is a great movie with arguably one of the best Disney princess endings. I thought this scene was perfect for this assignment!

Midterm

For Halloween 2023, the Kardashians dressed as Bratz Dolls. As Bratz Dollars are an iconic costume, the Kardashians always seem to take it a step further. I wasn’t sure I wanted to use this as my midterm because a few examples from our classes power points involved the Kardashians as well. But I decided to stick with specifically Khloe’s costume because of how much editing this photo contained.

                  When they posted these photos, people were shocked to find out that the yellow Bratz Doll was in fact, Khloe. Many accused her of cultural appropriation. As they were given prosthetic lips and her skin color in these photos seems to be much darker than it actually is. Of course no one got a direct apology from Khloe. People indeed defended her as well. Why do you need bigger lips and darker skin for a Halloween costume? This truly doesn’t make sense to me along with thousands of others in Khloe’s comments. The use of photo editing was only able to enhance these features more. I think that as a society, photo editing will only advance especially with the anticipation of knowing what celebrities like them will do next. People continue to ignore situations like these and overlook the cultural appropriation.

I was also someone who was shocked when I saw this image. If you didn’t tell me, it was even a Kardashian I would believe you. In this pop culture moment, I am seeing the connection between photo editing and social media. These sisters are expected to go over the top with their glam and Halloween costumes, but I fear instances like these are just too much. I decided to make my version a bit skinnier. I think that they are known for doing this and if there weren’t so many lines on the outfit then this would’ve already been done. I also added the eyes and lips of a completely different person. I really loved this touch because you can’t truly tell who these features are from. These are completely different features that obviously don’t match.

Younger girls look up to these grown women. They truly believe that they look like this in real life and that this look is achievable. This sets unrealistic beauty standards and ruins mental health. Young girls destroy their bodies trying to reach a similar look when it just isn’t possible without photo editing and the dangerous measures that these celebrities take. I think as technology and AI advance, we will only see higher beauty standards, worse mental health, more consumerism, and more usage of social media.

I decided to use Caitlyn's and Elizabeth's art work to inspire mine. These two pieces used the same complementary colors. I also used orange and blue for my second homework assignment so I wanted to find two people who used the same colors that I did. Both of them used at least one form of an animal element. The colors and usage of animals in their artwork is what made me feel the conceptual connection between them. I used these elements to create my work. I used orange and blue like them and used the cow and butterfly wings to create the center piece. I had lots of fun doing this and looking at their artwork to inspire my own!

For my artwork this week, I decided to take Bad Bunny’s album to recreate. My favorite song in the album is called “DtMF”. It decided on this album because I liked how different it was and how many different outdoor aspects it includes. When recreating this, I wanted to include 2 of something as well as different outdoor nature pieces. I couldn’t find 2 exact chairs so I decided on the music stands as it was similar to me. I also found many different nature and greenery to have as my background as well and many colors and vines I added.

This album has so many amazing songs. The song have so much meaning and are very sentimental! This is great work!

For this first assignment I took inspiration from Tyler The Creator and his Flower Boy album. The sunset sky and flowers stuck out to me when looking for inspiration. My favorite song from this album is See You Again. I enjoyed creating a fun colorful sky, sunflowers, and finding fun magazine pieces to make this piece more unique.

This is my second assignment. I decided to title this "concert cats". As I was drawing my background I started to see a stadium. I decided to use the complementary colors orange and blue. Once I saw a stadium, I found two microphones in my magazine that worked perfectly. I made these outfits based on when performers/pop stars wear today. Their outfits contain bright colors with pieces that will strike your eyes. I then added an audience to cheer them on as they perform. The audience was for sure not needed but it added to my fashion choices. The cats are there for emotional support but they bring them to every event they do.

I chose the album Who Really Cares by TV Girl. I put my spin on it by adding things this album makes me feel. It gives me dopamine and it makes inspired. I listen to this album for any mood I'm feeling. That is one of the many reasons I love it so much. I don't think I could truly choose just one favorite song from this album. I added lots of pink, purple, and blue because that's what the cover consists of.
