For my final art project, I drew inspiration from the phrase “April showers bring May flowers.” I’ve always loved watching the colors shift and flowers bloom, especially along the streets of Allegany in spring. My piece is a landscape filled with blossoming flowers under a partly sunny sky, where a few raindrops are falling from the passing clouds.
One of the main influences on my work was Fauvism, a movement known for its use of bold and vibrant colors. I aimed to reflect that in my own piece by using bright, cheerful hues that capture the energy of spring. Another influence was Impressionism. From that lesson, I learned that Impressionist art captures a moment full of life and movement rather than something frozen in time. While it can be challenging to show motion in a still painting, I tried to express the growth and movement of the flowers and clouds in my scene. Overall, I really enjoyed creating this piece and appreciated all the art assignments throughout the semester!
