Peter Chan’s “Fata Morgana” at Galerie Youn.
Currently on display at Galerie Youn in Montreal, Canada is artist Peter Chan’s exceptional looking solo exhibition “Fata Morgana.”
Seeking to explore the mysteries of idealized memories, “Fata Morgana” connects the classical with contemporary through imagery influenced by the past but affected by 21st century light. Sculptures by Rodin and Bernini are bathed in hues from unnatural, technicolor lighting. Faces are dimly lit from the screens of iPhones. Moments are missed due to preoccupation, captured on canvas by Chan’s brush. Why do we hold these moments so dear? Were they really that special? Chan certainly paints them that way but leaves us questioning - as he sought to do - our perceptions.
“Fata Morgana” is on display until October 15th, 2016.
