Making it in Indie Games: Starter Guide

Every now and then someone will ask me for advice on making it as a professional indie game developer. First, it’s a huge honor to be asked that. So I want to say “Thank you!“ Second… damn, if I really want to help out it’s a serious endeavor. Of course, I could always say "Give it your best! Work hard! Be true to yourself!” and it wouldn’t be a terrible reply… just not a terribly useful one, either.

So here it is. Here is what I’m going to link when that rare situation arises again, because it’s too much work to write it up more than once! This is advice that I feel may actually be practical to someone who is just starting out as an indie game developer. Hope it helps!

Hi Cheea! Just played Mushroom Oasis demo recently and loved it! I love Mychael the silly lil goober and I can't wait to spend more time with him! I apologize if this is too direct, but I'm hoping you'll consider clarifying the trigger warnings on the itch page into "pet death" rather than just "animal death" ;; I thought it was gonna be a random animal... My pardon for such a forward request but I think it'll be more helpful for folks in the future. Thank you for reading, keep up the good work!

wont even lie tho i been slacking partly in between writing occasionally, and the occasional character design tweak/fix and gathering refs for what i want here in there. i gotta pretty backtracked from losing my previous laptop. everything was saved to the cloud of course but all that time without drawing then having to get a new laptop... man

i kinda wanna stream my current progress to keep me motivated and accountable, and ideally i can since the twitch i remade only has 6 followers currently

but im still in the boat of 'i probably shouldnt be sharing Too much' idk

majority of my progress has been kept to myself cuz i got shy about sharing and then just. eventually forgot i had this account ngl

i'll try to utilize it more tho honestly -w- its nice since theres less people here... easier to geek out and keep stuff away from my regular art stuff.

the part of me that wants ppl to be excited abt the story and ocs that struggles with 'not spoiling' stuff is more or less soothed when i can ramble here. so i'll try again instead of silently working! (tho i will still be majorly silently working still)
