—— wind who severs the earth.
so! i’ll be moving kensei to a new blog, as my tags on this one aren’t working properly, on top of many unnactive followers —— this blog i’ll be archived & i’ll be unfollowing every mutual so y’all don’t end up with a ghost blog as follow!
i’m going to keep all the threads going on, but they’ll be answered on the new blog :)! same about relationships. see ya there!
CHEST TATTOO \ ITS MEANING, and some stuff about kensei’s life.
his 6 \ 9 tattoo has a very personal symbolism, which goes beyond what’s addressed in canon — it’s not only a representative of his passion towards ninth, but also quite telling of his past & his own self.
THE SIX.
it refers to the kanji 六 that composes the first part of his surname; muguruma ( 六車 )
kensei was born on the living world in mid-to-late 14th century ( 1301-1400 ), & died few years into his adolescence. his family was the main branch of a toraijin, a clan with genealogy rooted outside of japan current territory, & offered services of protection / guard — though known only regionaly, the muguruma clan was held in high regard by its truthworthness, honesty & loyalty.
being a first born, kensei was acquaintanced with swordmanship at a very young age, but soon showed his dishonorable tendency to fist-fight. despite the intense training he was put through, so he would learn to avoid such habits, often he would thrown aside his sword in favor of bare-handed attacks, which eventually got him deadly wounded — the nature & place of the injury might be the reason behind his bad memory, or so he believes.
to his luck, his procedural memories are unnafected, & he carried on his skills to soul society. other than that, he also remembers what had been hammed down on him incessantly; his family link with protection duties, the value of honesty & loyalty.
—— so his surname means not only where he came from, but also what was the base for who he’s currently & what he conquered until now: * his proficiency skills made him stand out & pass through academy, despite his utter inability with kido; * his family traditional purposes merged to be his main traits, as he puts honesty above all else, & can be expecionaly loyal to a cause, to the point of overlooking past grudges; * the duty of protection left such a impression on him, he had no doubts where he was meant to be — ninth’s special duty is to protect the seireitei, acting as its security force, which called to his own memories since the very beginning.
ad. obviously ‘muguruma’ holds no special value on soul society, nor on japan’s territory either. the only person aware of its deeper meaning is kensei himself & he has not shared any of it with anyone but mashiro.
THE NINE.
it refers to his division of choice, the ninth.
ninth was the first & only division kensei entered, starting straight as its 3th seat ( due his rapid development with tachizake; they both had great harmony, as its power enable kensei’s brutalistic tendencies ), then less than fifteen years later, he assumed the position of lieutenant.
he remained as ninth’s lieutenant for around 180 years, after which he got the captain position from ???? ( i just…. don’t know? but none of the royal guards fit, so it’s probably someone who died, as there’s no retirement in ss ) — by the events of turn back the pendulum ( 1901 ), he had been captain for around 300 years.
after his exile of 100 years, he was accepted back as ninth’s captain. considering the conditions that led to his exile, going back to soul society might have looked like a difficult decision to take, bordering on a lack of pride, but it wasn’t — ninth is kensei main pride & undoubtedly his main reason to live.
he poured almost his whole life into ninth, to a point where he considered it his personal instituition; part of gotei 13 yes, but mainly his own work. he’s rightfuly credited for perpetuating & solidifying ninth’s success in: * performing its special duties of protection & readiness for combat; * for developing / improving recognition processes for when engaging in unknown danger, as it’s ninth’s role as first in line of battle; * for creating & establishing the seireitei comunication, which’s centered in raising gotei’s morale.
& while his passion for ninth has considerably decreased after his exile ( which’s why he has covered his chest tattoo / has made room to hobbies & love interests ), he still applies his whole self to his captain duties & has no desire to ascend in the hierarchy; if it ever comes to that, he’ll refuse any opportunity presented, no matter the rewards — his compromise to ninth surpass his seeking for recognition, for power, for the assurance what he’s doing is important. in a way, it goes over his compromise to gotei 13 itself.
— in short, his tattoo represents the essence of who he is as a person & for which cause this whole self is applied to: not the gotei 13, but ninth & his own morals.
this is why the 6 / 9 is not a funny trade mark of kensei, & should not be used as so in IC content ( unless offeding is the intention ); this is why he’ll never give permission to subordinates to use it as some sort of ninth’s symbol; this is while he doesn’t take shuuhei’s tattoo as a tribute, but as an innocuos dumbassery — in fact, appropriating of his tattoo is a great way to offend him.
since his return to soul society, his tattoo has been covered by his shihakusho; no one who didn’t know him from turn back the pendulum has saw it & therefore, it turned almost into a rumor.
you asked me to dress fancy, and i did. this shirt has no holes and im not visibly armed. that counts
I just love *clenches fist* talking about character analysis and why characters act the way they do. It’s supremely satisfying to figure out motivations of characters and see how that ties into their core nature and how they perceive the world around them.
kyofu-shi· \ shuuhei
Shuuhei hadn’t expected Kensei to say anything, much less return his sentiment. The praise that was freely offered to him were words he’d dreamed about hearing as far back as the academy. Maybe even before that. It was every bit as lame as it sounded; some scrawny teen dedicated to the idea of making his idol proud of him one day.
Those words hit him harder now than he felt they would have had he heard them sooner. Maybe because he didn’t know Kensei Muguruma back then. He knew the pedestal he’d placed Captain Muguruma on. Every time he’d asked himself what he thought Kensei would do, he’d always just been guessing. Shuuhei had just been a kid that needed guidance, needed a good role model to look up to. Kensei had never asked to be placed in that position.
That was something Shuuhei had come to terms with a long time ago. It hadn’t been fair to begin with, and more than that, he wouldn’t have been doing either of them any favors if he held on to some ideal of a man who picked him up off the dirt a century ago, rather than get to know who he really was. Shuuhei could honestly say he liked Kensei a hell of a lot better than he ever had some idealistic hero.
But that didn’t mean he was sure he deserved to hear Kensei’s claim that there was no one better to support him. …He wanted to be. God he still wanted to be; that determined kid in the back of his mind still wanted nothing more than to hear how proud he was of him. And hell, he had more than that now didn’t he. He had Kensei’s respect. Why couldn’t he just accept that.
He’d screwed up so many times. It had gotten to the point where Shuuhei felt like his face had become a physical shrine to all of his worst mistakes. The scars he gotten when he’d been willing to die to save his underclassmen. The stripe straight across to honor his classmates who’d been slaughtered right beside him (it was all he could do to keep the survivors guilt from eating him alive). And the 6 9 smacked on his cheek to ‘honor’ what he’d been told was a good man murdered before he’d ever even gotten a chance to thank him.
Shuuhei had spent so much time scared after that. He’d done and said so many things that he knew now, with certainty he hadn’t had then, that Kensei would have hated. He hadn’t wanted to fight anymore, not because he was afraid of dying, but because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to save the people he cared about, the people standing right next to him. Tousen had only encouraged it – the fear. Shuuhei understood now that it hadn’t been something he’d done out of a benevolent guidance, but a hatred of men with power. If Shuuhei stayed in a state of anxiety about his own abilities, he’d never run the risk of abusing them. … It was a hard thing to swallow to think that that was how Tousen honestly felt about him; someone who could ever abuse their power.
Tearful eyes shifted back down to the grave at his feet, if for nothing else than a reminder that Tousen and all his lessons were gone. …And he wasn’t a better man for having known him, as much as he wished that that wasn’t true. Why would he be, when that hadn’t been what Tousen wanted – to leave him better than how he found him. Or maybe he’d really thought he’d done Shuuhei a favor, it wasn’t like he could ever ask him now. In the end, it had been Shuuhei that had wanted to make Tousen better than how he’d found him.
…Maybe he was more like Kensei than he gave himself credit for these days.
❝ No… I’ve spent enough time holding onto the past. I’m ready to go.❞

“Hn— i’m not certain I’m allowed to announce it just yet. Will it do if I say that we are currently preparing something for everyone in Seireitei?” Her grip on the box grows a little more firm. “—and about that … I’ve been looking for Mashiro-san since she mentioned that she would like to take care of … … ‘the main event,’ you could say. I thought she may be in need of this, but … ? That’s odd.”
—— not allowed? very suspicious, to say the least.
❛ the funds are destined to a surprise then, ❜ with mashiro’s hands involved; not only suspicious, but quite terrific, too. a shame mashiro was also his biggest weak point, ❛ did she compromise with an ad about the event on seireitei communication? it would boost your funds for sure... i can check that for you, if it's time sensitive. ❜

“great!” she beams up at him, pointing at a nearby picnic table for him to take a seat. when he’s seated (taking his sweet damn time), she places it in front of him, gently opening the in front of his scrutinizing gaze. it’s one of those modern two-layered ones, and she unhooks the first layer free to display the contents of both. the lower layer is stuffed with cold-baked salmon drizzled with soy, steamed sticky rice, and crisp veggies. the second has her personal favorites - a section of tempura chicken, a variety of sushi balls, and candied yams, set aside with a sealed container of miso and tofu soup.
“you never told me what kind of food you liked, and since you’re helping me out all of the time, I thought I’d thank you with a meal.” she sits across from him, procures two chopsticks that materialize out of nowhere, offering him a pair.
hm, okay. not only it was a two layered bento with soups as side dishes, everything inside also looked delightfully done. sure, he could have come up with something like that-- on a day off, with time to spare. for now she outdid him, but what really matters to food stuff was the taste, so who knew? maybe he still could hold on his ‘i’m the better cook’ self-given title.
except it only took a bite out of the salmon to know yeah, he was defeated, ❛ i’m into good food, exactly like this one, ❜ he pointed the chopsticks towards the rice, but this time he waited; she hadn’t served herself & he was a man of manners... mostly. ❛ where the hell you learn all this, anyway? ❜
You know how I've used you as an example (for everything) to get tats. :D well now I have some piercings too.
uh. was this going to be weird, again? the deal with the tattoo was kinda weird already, & kensei knew he wasn’t up to more from the same subordinade — even one of his favorites.
❛ yeah? where’s it? ❜
let’s play a dash game. reblog this & in the tags type down who was your first muse ever on this website. ( bonus - if you want to add the fandom they are from and why you chose them. )

my son,
muyuun \ seiichiro
“——— ? don’t be ridiculous. Nothing good would come from that.” And there it was; the core of this predicament. He had no desire for this kind of future, nor did he feel particularly in need of power, in general. It was, perhaps, only natural then, that the prospect of working harder seemed somewhat absurd to him. His gaze shifted towards the sheathed sword to his side; eyes filled with some harmless disdain and a little bit of unease. “… this guy here disagrees, I s’pose. It’s tiring.”
kensei might have took a moment to think, except naturally first things come first.
—— in a heartbeat’s time, he slapped the base of seiichiro’s neck, saying along; ❛ mind your fucking manners, kiddo, how many times i’ve to tell you? ❜ maybe it was a little harsh ( it certainly was ironic, as well as painful ), but necessary too; he couldn’t let a subordinate tell him to ‘not be ridiculous’. & this done, he saw no problem in going on; not holding any grudges, not considering seiichiro had any reason to hold one either;
❛ you’re thinking this guy has wishes of his own accord, but he can’t do that-- he wants what you want, even if you disagree with him; he’s only a reflection of your soul & your heart, after all. ❜ it wasn’t just a matter of knowing oneself, though; that phase came when one first meet their zanpakuto. it seemed to be a matter of accepting oneself, which was considerably harder — specially when one didn’t even know it was a step still undone on their path.
❛ the problem is, you can lie to yourself, about who you’re or what you want; you can be so good at it you don’t think you’re lying anymore. ❜ he patted tachizake’s handle, fondly, ❛ but your zanpakuto will always know the truth, & he’ll say it either it’s what you want to hear or not; that’s why it feels as if you both disagree —— & you only really have two options, you accept what he’s saying or you struggle with him until you’re dead. ❜
