When architecture inhales the breathe of nature, an art like this is birthed.
Surprise¿
Growing up, I have always had a fascination for Architecture and Engineering, particularly, building structures you design. Coming to college, I had to streamline my concentration. I chose Architecture because it just felt right but what I did not see coming was the process that takes place when coming up with a design. All I knew was that I needed to work hard and give it my all. I did not know a good part of my sleep life would need to be sacrificed if I must be the best I can in Architecture and others classes I took. This realization changed everything for me because I prepared myself more before the semester starts and watched my time management skills develop and improve because to be successful in the career meeting deadlines is key.
In my job, I have also found out that ability to relate with co-workers and colleagues is key, putting aside your differences and finding a common ground is key in a place where success is the goal. I also realized how much restrictions and thoughts is given in any case because human safety is always a top priority. These restrictions are mainly imposed by building codes, state and town laws. And interestingly, the town code and laws superceeds that of the federal and state. I never realized how much law authorities could determine what is allowed and what is not, in this case design moves in a building.
Norwich University job fair
As a Junior currently studying at Norwich University, it is to my advantage that the School of Architecture + Arts organizes job fairs where students like me meet prospective employers. A wide of Norwich University graduates eventually work for firms who participate in the university’s organized job fairs either as interns or full time employees.
For me, the job fairs is an opportunity that potentially opens the door for a career that I have long awaited. It is a chance to speak with professionals across a wide range of architecture specialties and learn the tips you need to be successful in the field.
I will be interviewing with 3 firms of my choice:
E4H Architecture
Colby Co. Engineering
Hyman Hayes Associates
1. E4H Architecture
E4H is an architectural firm that specializes in designing for the health facilities. It is a global with locations in Boston, New York, Dallas, Burlington, and Portland.
2. Colby Co. Engineering
Colby Co. Engineering is an architectural firm that specializes in design, project managing of new and renovated buildings for private, commercial, local, state, and federal clients.
3. Hyman Hayes Associates
Hyman Hayes is an architectural firm focused on architectural, structural, and interior design with specialization in healthcare, science and technology, higher education, and general building design.
Here is a copy of my resume:
COMMUNICATION; a basic skill in the Architecture & Engineering field.
Proper communication is a very basic skill everyone needs to have in any field, especially in any career that deals with human lives. A good communication skill is as needed in every other field as Architecture because we design spaces that humans occupy and in doing such, safety is always a priority.
In architecture, diagrams are used to explain concepts and ideas. Use of language, in written or spoken form is not sufficient in itself to speak the architectural language. Architectural drawings and renderings in later parts are product of developed sketches and scribbles. Ideas remain locked in the mind until a pencil is picked up. It is the means through which the ideas that previously existed in the mind is expressed and refined with time and consistency. Knowing use of color and fonts in making architecture posters is a valuable skill that remains vital because having proper skill is necessary in selling your project to a client.

My Professional Path
Considering my family, background, work experience and academics, I see myself in the architecture and engineering field. I have always thought of myself as a becoming a professional in the construction field. I envision bringing solutions to some of the worlds problems. Architecture for me is an expression of emotions. It also gives me a voice and an opportunity to be heard. I am not sure as to whether i want to focus on residential or commercial architecture yet, but my philosophy is that an architect should be ready to use his hands as a voice not only to be heard but also to provide solutions for all.
I have been actively involved in the construction industry for almost a year, and that has given me a lot of experience in the becoming process. I was made the project manager of an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) project at Norwich University Construction Services which has given a wide range of experience in the planning, preparation and execution of projects. After my internship, I intend to apply to various firms like TrueXCullins, and Freeman French Freeman Architects for a position which will officially kickstart my career in the right and desired direction. I have been able to learn how to engage clients and how the make sure the true value of the dollar amount a client is paying for is obtained to the fullest. I have discovered that as an architect, you need various skills of communication, empathy, sincere and deep consideration of your clients needs. I learnt all these qualities from my job as an intern. These qualities reflect in my engagements with fellow students in group projects and in my personal projects as well. Looking back at where I started my education in the path of architecture, it is obvious that a lot of learning has occurred. knowledge is often to be permanent and for me I believe all I have learn’t will stick with f
The professional field of architecture and engineering is one that requires being current and updated, upon graduating in the summer of 2020 with a bachelor in science (B.sc)and Art (B.a), I intend to obtain my Masters in Architecture from Norwich University which is a step forward in the right direction. During this time I hope to enhance my drawing skills and representation of ideas in a clear and convincing way. I think of all the needed skills I need to be successful, the one missing is a strong knowledge and use of Computer Aided Design (CAD). I have made a plan to learn these programs and will be doing an online lesson that will work me through the various programs there is. Upon completion, I will be given a certificate. With these efforts, I am hopeful a successful career as an Architect is very much possible and achievable.
About Me
Kenechukwu Onwe is a student at Norwich University NU20’. He is currently doing an independent study where he hopes to develop a professional skill of representing his architectural Ideas in both drawings and writing while learning a professional way of showcasing his art and design, he is also an intern at Norwich University construction services where he is a support staff and assistant to the Senior Construction manger. He ensures Norwich University gets the quality of work they paid for, reviews project schedules, punch list items and daily reports of project progress. He works with a team of 5 people. He reports to the Senior Construction Managers, Douglas J. White and Norm St. Onge, while they report to the Chief Administrator Officer of Norwich University, David Magida. The Chief Administration Officer approves a project and in turn I work hand in hand with the Senior project managers to make sure the work is done to a satisfactory level.
What is Architecture?
Architecture to me is a variety of things, it is an expression of our emotions. It is a representation of a persons beliefs and feelings. Our beliefs make us unique and just as everyone has a journey in life is unique, so is architecture to different people. Our beliefs have its core and so does architecture. It has soul and should be treated as such.
