New Tesla Model S P85D, Is It Worth The Hype?
I know i am a kind of a coach racer, but the number of articles praising the new Tesla S P85D, like the one below, has given me some thoughts.
http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/will-the-tesla-model-s-p85d-be-the-best-overall-car-you-1644727868
Correct me if i am wrong, but the main reason one would buy the Tesla is primarily the economy and the efficiency of the engine of the Tesla. Unsporty road behaviour in corners with a 2.5 tone body would be out of question.
Given that, and the fact that Tesla's don't have enough luggage space and range autonomy, the car obviously addresses to businessmen who want to drive to their jobs and back in a fast stylish and luxurious way. Now the question is why should someone give 130.000$ instead of a (for example) Panamera hybrid which costs 100.000$ and has similar power (1/4 mile in 13.8s) and is much more agile in corners.
http://www.porsche.com/international/models/panamera/panamera-s-e-hybrid/
Also, according to my calculations, 84kWh of Tesla translated to USD$ is pretty much the same (or more) as 90MPG of Panamera for the same range of 290 miles.
So we come to a point which only the electronic gizmo of automatic parking without the driver is something completely new. Active braking, lane keeping assist, and parking assist have been developed by Mercedes, Lexus, Bmw for years and they are nothing new in the car industry.
So why should someone buy a Tesla except for the hype of being an electric car plus all that not-so-new gizmo? For the 0-60 in 3.2 sec instead of a Panamera that does it in 5 sec, i wouldn't think so, i'm not a drag race fan.
Sorry but i don't buy the hype.
