I feel like this is a strange request, but does anyone have a recipe for a coffee drink they like that they can keep in quantities in the fridge?
Requirements: 1) needs to be sweet and creamy (or is good with sweet creamy stuff added to it?), 2) needs to be filtered (I fear cafestol and kahweol)
I appreciate any techniques/thoughts/recipes!

how measurements work in canada (ie/ badly)
We have similar problems.
Here's a UK version:
(it gets more complicated than this but this is the basics that most people need...also there's an age disparity in that some older people will only use imperial and some younger people have never used things like stones and pounds)
the change from AD to CE feels really emblematic of how surface-level and meaningless the supposed secularization of the western world is
Common Era is definitely preferable over Anno Domini, if only because christ is no lord of mine, but itâs only less christianocentric in that it doesnât overtly make reference to christ in its title. the benchmark is still the same. youâre still measuring when the common era began using the (supposed) birth of christ, separating history into âthe period before jesusâ and âthe period after jesusâ. this conception of history is no less defined by christianity than it was before, except that now itâs easier to ignore because youâve draped it in a âsecularâ, âmodernâ veneer and done nothing to actually unpack the ways in which western society intrinsically centers christianity.
Here are the reasons I use BCE/CE rather than BC/AD:
Technically, AD needs to be before the year, while BC should be after the year. This is silly and no one cares and yet, I prefer to be Technically Correct and not worry about all of it. Both BCE and CE are correctly placed after the year.
We don't even know when Christ was born. AD is therefore essentially incorrect. Also, I'm Jewish and don't particularly love using Christ as a marker for everything.
I am NOT going to be using an entirely different dating system. I am a historian and I'm already juggling a few different dating systems as it is. I am well aware of how easily errors are introduced in converting between dating sytems.
I agree that it's a bit surface-level, and I don't require others to use BCE/CE, but those are the reasons I find it preferable!

how do you pronounce the honourific "Ms." in english
"miss"
"miz"
other
unsure/see results
really good "shocking number of people are confidently objectively demonstrably completely wrong" poll
i am losing my fucking mind
#we dont use honorifics in my first language so whenever i have to select options (usually for flights) im always so confused#like what is actually the difference between miss and ms#i like miss bc it sounds more historical and im a historian so
"Miss" means an unmarried woman. "Mrs." means a married woman. (both of these have origins in the word "mistress" as in "mistress of the house".)
"Ms." - prounounced MIZ, btw - is a third option popularized by gloria steinem in the 70s - mainly through her feminist magazine Ms. - which is meant to be a neutral term, usable for any and all women regardless of marital status (hence the soul destroying irony of the tags above). it gained wider general acceptance when geraldine ferraro, the first woman to be nominated as VP on a national major party ticket, started using it widely to avoid confusion, since she was married but used her maiden name professionally. eventually over the years it came into common use though i do think the brits are a little more critical of it than americans (as far as i'm aware lol)
"obscure facts only a tumblr user would know" and it's one of the most influential institutions of second wave american feminism. PLEASE open the schools
Hi. I'm an unmarried woman in her forties. I use Ms. and pronounce it "miz", though I don't correct people who accidentally use a soft S. I use Ms. because it's no one's business but my own whether I'm married, to a man or anyone else, and that's what Ms. means. It means fuck off, my marital status is irrelevant, just as it is for every man who uses Mr.
I've had people (usually children) ask me at work if I'm a missus or a miss. I have replied that I am a miz, full stop. And when they pressed for which one I was REALLY, I have replied, "Why? Are you going to treat me differently depending on whether there's a ring somewhere?"
That's what Ms. is for. That is its linguistic function. It says, "This is an adult woman," and nothing else. Nothing else is necessary, and in my case, nothing else is desired.
I also use miz for other women unless and until they express a preference for something else because I don't magically know everyone else's marital status when I meet them. That's a courtesyâI'm declining to assume marital status and allowing them to decide whether they wish to declare it.
Also, I've taught English and worked as an editor for twenty years. I am quite literally the grammar police. This use of Ms. is a standard construction. If you didn't learn it in school, someone failed you.
âObscure factsâ Boo boo I was taught it in elementary school. One with a state standardized curriculum.
Ms. is marriage-neutral and itâs pronounced Miz. It is deliberately different from Miss.
I used to use Ms. (MIZ!!! What is happening with 35% of people) pretty militantly until I figured out the secret cheat code out of the whole thing - I got a PhD. Now it's Dr. to you!!!!!
So there's this one Tumblr ad that's shown to me on mobile that I find so profoundly visually upsetting that, like, it haunts me an unfunny way. I would go pretty far not to see it again. I tried reporting the ad a couple of times and it doesn't seem to have taken it out of my rotation? I guess the idea is that your eye is actually drawn to stuff you find horrifying and people will notice the ad? But. Like.
Like it's bad enough to the point that I don't want to look at Tumblr on mobile anymore. I am actively avoiding it! You would think Tumblr would probably not want this?
And the irony is is that it's an ad for a game that I actually already play a whole lot! It makes me want to play the game less too!
They should invent a being awake for which you actually FEEL awake and want to stay that way
Fandom permission statements
Hello, I am here with yet another pitch for writers to add a permission statement to their AO3 bio! Posts about permission statements tend to circulate among the podfic community, which is really preaching to the choir, so I would really love it if some writer-types also reblog this. â¤ď¸
(While permission statements can and do address multiple types of transformative work, this post very podfic-centric.)
What is a permission statement?
A permission statement tells people who create works based on fanfics (e.g. podfic, art, remixes) whether or not you're okay with people making stuff based on your writing and in what circumstances.
Even if you're not up for giving everyone permission for everything, having a statement we can read is SO appreciated!
What is blanket permission?
Blanket permission is a term podficcers use for permissions that let us create and post podfic without having to contact the author. We love this!
What other kinds of permission statements are there and why would I still want to use one?
If you don't want to give blanket permission, having a permission statement telling folks what you are and aren't okay with helps a lot!
If an author doesn't want to give blanket permission, a statement encouraging podfic but asking a podficcer to ask first still tells us you're interested and that we can expect to receive a friendly (even if not always a 'yes') response.
If you don't want podfic made of your work at all, then telling us this saves us time and saves you from getting repeated messages from different podficcers!
Do you have an example?
Sure do! Here's the statement I currently have in my AO3 profile (which you should feel free to copy, modify or take any other kind of inspiration from):
I grant blanket permission for podfics, art and translations, and any other transformative work as long as it involves absolutely no monetary profit or monetary exchange of any kind, or contribution to or use of generative AI. Please link back to the original so I can be thrilled you did it!
Why consider blanket permission?
If you do want podfic made of your work, blanket permission makes it a whole lot more likely a podficcer will choose your work! Because:
Especially for events with quick turnaround times and that include recommendations made to other podficcers for projects, it's often the only way we can get permission in time
It means we can start working on a project as soon as we decide to, rather than having to wait to hear back
Some people are less comfortable reaching out to ask and so will be less willing to podfic works without blanket permission
It can also feel awkward to ask for permission and then not do the podfic for a while (or ever), which can be a mental barrier to reaching out
Blanket permission is so helpful that we even have a whole database of people who have blanket permission so we can find them more easily and an extension that highlights their names in green for 'full speed ahead!'
Podfic makes a writer's work more accessible to audiences that aren't always able to engage with written text, and I personally love it when someone cares about my writing to put in the effort to podfic it. So I want to encourage its creation as much as I can!
No matter what kind of permission you end up being comfortable with, I hope you will consider adding a statement to your AO3 profile, and thanks for reading this pitch!

#good idea! #but I would be sad if someone podficced me and didn't let me know!
Thoughts on this!
First, it definitely still counts as blanket permission if you say "please make sure you email me or comment on the fic afterwards to let me know."
Second, almost invariably (in my experience, anyway), the podfic will be posted to ao3, and you will get a Related Work notification! I know sometimes people miss these because they show up in your email and not your ao3 inbox, but you will definitely be told.
So, this is a good opportunity to bring up the related concept that is often overlooked, and really needs to be re-taught to fans:
You do not need permission to engage in the fandom.
This goes for fanfic of a fanfic, art of a fanfic, podfic of a fanfic, any kind of fan creation based on original source material or on derivative (fan) material, so long as you are not making money off of that.
These permission statements come from a good place.
But the flipside that they insinuate and subconsciously instill in fans is the normalization of requiring a permission to be a fan and do fan things. And that concept is highly toxic to fandom. It leads to gatekeeping, to some fans being better than other fans, to some fans being 'in' on the fandom while others are on the 'outside', to some headcanons being seen as permissible and others not, etc. Basically, it leads to censorship.
One should never place politeness over the fan freedom of creation. Politeness is always secondary. It must be that way to preserve fandom.
What are you going to do if a fanfic author says they don't like (or don't want) you to write a fanfic/art/podfic?
You're going to do it anyway. You just don't tag them and get up in their business.
They don't have authority to tell you no, nor do they have permission in a fandom to tell you no.
You have blanket permission to do all the fandom related things you want. Period. It is irrevocable.
Permission statements are a great way to spread warmth and encouragement. The flipside is the normalization of censorship.
And we are not currently teaching fans their right to fandom. What we are teaching them is to be timid, to seek and even require permission just to exist. (This is not inherent to the podfic community - this is a blanket trend in fandom).
A better 'permission' statement would educate fans of their rights: you have the inherent right to make any and all non-monetary fanworks off this work. If you do, please tag me! (Or the flipside, if you do, please don't tag me.)
While you may feel this way, the reality is that the podfic community I'm part of operates primarily on AO3, and AO3 has a policy that does not allow podfics to be posted without the author's permission.
From the Terms of Service FAQ:
Can I post a translation or a podfic of someone else's work? Translations and podfics can be posted only if you have permission from the copyright owner (usually the creator or publisher) of the original work. If you do not have permission, then you may not post your work. Under United States copyright law, translations and audiobooks are considered "derivative" works â not transformative works. Derivative works cannot be posted without the copyright holder's consent.Â
Also, as I've mentioned in another post, this remains true even if you orphan the work!
What if the original creator deleted or orphaned their work, or posted it anonymously?
Even if someone deletes or orphans their work, or posts it anonymously, they still hold the copyright to their own work. If the original creator has chosen to remove their fanwork from the internet, or cannot be contacted, then please respect their decision. You cannot post, convert, podfic, or translate someone else's work without their explicit permission, even if you credit them or disclaim credit for yourself.

This was supposed to be a very minor cold! I did NOT sign up for a full-blown Illness!!!
Of course I get a cold just as I have one day worth of work left. Now I'm unmotivated and tired and it's not like I'm gonna record podfic anyway with this vibe happening!!!
Sooooooooo I don't think I'll be finishing today after all.
Malaise is such a dumb symptom, though. I feel crappy! In what way? What sensation is actually unpleasant? Oh, nothing. It's not tiredness or ache or pain or congestion or restlessness or etc. It's just ~â˘~*~*~ bad vibes ~*~*~â˘~
Maybe just one more day of work left!
Things I am going to do this summer:
Go REAL hard on Voiceteam for May
Play Hades again, to get into the vibes, so I can...
Play Hades 2!
Finally finish Zombies, Run! season 1. It has been literally 14 years. My mistake is that every time I try to get back into it, I start at the beginning of season 1. This year I just read all the episode summaries and I WILL finish!!!
Maybe fuck around and decide on an entirely new path for my life? ha ha maybe not tho
Read a bunch of books from the library
Read a bunch of books from my shelves
Do some sorting/organizing so my apartment has fewer Piles of Stuff
There are definitely going to be more things added to this list, but I'm happy with what it looks like for now!
I'm getting kind of dizzy again and I have to admit it has me worried! It would be so neat not to feel like both a hypochondriac and like a delicate Victorian flower about to swoon at any moment.
What else! I gave Limpet a bath this morning because my friend is coming over to watch her while I go to work for several hours (both my mom and my usual dogsitters are out of town) and I figure that if she has to hold a dog in her lap for the majority of 5 hours, it should at least be a nice smelling dog.
I'm now hoping for... Thursday? I guess? as when I will finish work. Might be Friday. Might be somewhere in the depths of eternity. What is time.
I don't want to jinx it but it's been maybe more than a year now that I know what I'm going to have for breakfast when I wake up, and I'm looking forward to it. This makes my life SO MUCH easier! Thank heavens for Nutella and berries on toast. (Plus something salty. Today, popcorn!)
I woke up at 6:30 am and listened to multiple podcasts and had breakfast, then washed the dog and did a small bit of tidying, and now I'm back in bed as if I have been in the mines all day. Aaaany second I will try to rally and go do actual work.
